Anyone have stats or a rough idea how often they are cashing in with:
single table sngs?
multitable sngs?
tournis?
I seem to be okay with single tables but after that I don't cash in enough to break even.

Well since I have been donked out all last week and this week by fish I have no stats. LOL...
I have been playing some time now but ever since I switched to sportsbook some people ( not all ) will follow you all over the damn place and the last two weeks they have hit big time.

I could probably find out but off the top of my head I've got no idea.

Thing is the % you're cashing isn't necessarily a helpful statistic. Take single-table SnGs, for example. You can be cashing in 50% of them but if you're only making third place each time you'll be losing money despite the fact that you're cashing in half your games.

That's an extreme example, obviously, because nobody finishes with only third places. But it illustrates the point. The % of the time you're cashing doesn't actually matter as long as your ROI is positive. ROI and $/hr are much more useful measures of how successful you're being. Your distribution of finishing places can be useful to look at too.

Keep in mind too that there's huge variance in multi-table tournaments and you need to be looking at a very big sample of games to draw any meaningful conclusions. Generally a few deep runs and big scores make up for the dozens of other attempts where you only get a small return or don't cash at all.

I agree with Oz.

I used to go of ITDM % when I first started and now think this statistic is pretty much useless. Many of people who are for some reason happy limping in the minimum cash tend to have a higher ITM % than say a high winning ROI% rate player.

I really wouldn't look to much in to it, I average between 25-30% in micros MTT SnG's from just checking but again, it doesn't really interest me much.

Try concentrate more on getting a higher ROI% rather than ITM%.

Someone (not possible) could have a 100% ITM% but still be behind with someone with only 10% ITM% as the ones with a lower ITM% "tend" to have higher final table and 1st places than someone with the higher percentage.

The ideal ITM finishing distribution for a 50/30/20 9-man STT is said to be 1>3>2, and it probably is something you want to consider alongside the ITM % itself to get a better picture of how you're doing. The reasoning seems intuitive enough: placing ITM is your first priority because of the huge equity difference between that and placing OOTM (this may be less applicable to MTTs, where you generally want to aim higher than a min-cash from the get-go), but once ITM, you want to up your aggression and place 1st as frequently as possible (even if oftentimes at the expense of coming in 3rd instead of 2nd) because the difference between 1st and 2nd is more significant than between 2nd and 3rd.

I try to bear these general principles in mind when playing my staple game of the moment (6-man super turbos), and thus far I have a healthy ITM placement rate and my firsts are outnumbering my seconds by about 3:2. So far so good, but I'd like to grind a couple k more games before making too much of these numbers.

Typically, winning SNG/STT players will be ITM ~40% (<38% ITM (in the longrun) & they are usually 'not' winning players).
MTT: most of the Top MTT players (med.-higher buyins) are ITM 9-11% (in lower buyins it's generally a bit higher ITM%)

Another thing are double up sng's. Because of the game fees, you need to win 60 % to break even. To get any kind of return at all you need about 80% cashes. Pretty similar to heads up as well.

rough idea

single table sngs? 40%+
multitable sngs? 20-30%
tournis? 10-20%

Like everyone say ROI and $/hr is what you need to have a better idea of your game. (added to a ton of games to stat have any value)

Interesting question but I have absolutely no idea...

For me I look at tournaments as a way to have some fun. With online poker the way that it is now, it is hard to really get into keeping stats. Thankfully I don't look at this as my job.

I am interested to see others' responses though. This site is really good for telling me why certain stats are more important than others. Good luck out there!

You would have one $106 in prizes plus 35% of $8 in fees giving you a total of $108.80.
