Your dealt AJ off, EP, no action yet, your sitting on around 7.5k, blinds are 200-400. What do you do?

Same as above, but your in Mp-late position..

say you play the hand, you get 2 callers, flop is 3,A,9. You bet (?x amount) 1 fold, you get 3 bet by button..
Your move..?

Also same situations for A10 / AQ (off). Whats the general consensus on these hands and blind levels etc.

Asking because these have been the type of hands to bust me lately. At the points of a tournament when your sitting under 20BBs or 10- even..

Cheers =]

(vague question, kinda, but hoping you get the idea, and can elaborate on the hand as you may see it play out etc. different things to take into account blabla).

Assuming it's 9 handed w/ ~20bbs AJ and AT are folds for me in EP. AQ is too strong to let go so I'd raise with the intention of getting it all in unless a tight player comes over the top.

These hands later in a tourneme nt are easier to read. Raise preflop is a must (of course) atleast 3-5x BB , and that way who ever calls you can assume is holding a strong pair or a nice ace. but then its how do you feel if an ace hits flop. Really need to watch other players.
Anything near 1st or 2nd level who knows what the guys got, Ive seen people call with 8 3 off just because its cheap.

AJ UTG and UTG +1 is a fold for me. From MP I raise. With the example flop I'm definitely C betting my standard 2/3 pot. If I run into a 3 bet I'm folding AJ.

This of course depends on how I've read the villain as well.

A10 I usually don't play until the button/cutoff/hijack. The play with it will be the same as above.

AQ I will play at any position but once again I don't see it as a strong enough hand to call a 3 bet with so also the same as above.

This is how I'd play those. I'm sure some people may play it different. Hope this helps.

Forgot to add. This is considering you have 20BB.

If I'm first in the pot with under 10BB with antes all three of those hands would be push hands for me.

There are a lot of players on this site way smarter then me though so if one of them stops by they'll probably offer much better advice and you should probably listen to them.

Assuming no antes, and regular table dynamics.

15-20BB - open 2.2 - 2.5x BB
EP - AQ+, 88+
MP - A10+, KJ+ 66+
LP - Axs, A10o+, J10+, 22+

10-15BB - open shove
EP - AQ+, 88+
MP - AJ+, 77+
LP - A10+, 22+

Less than 10BB - open shove
EP - A10+, 66+ (with 10BB A10 is probably a fold from EP)
MP - A10+, K10+, 22+
LP - Any ace, most kings, suited connectors, all pairs.

Just a general look at what I do. Dont follow religiously but as a guideline should be okay.

If you have AJ, you have very big chances to loose, because it's very obviously to some other player have AQ or AK, but if you have AQ or AK you should raise if there isn't possibility for straight or flush, you had to look out for that.

2/3 pot is too big with SPR and I'm rarely folding if someone raises with stated stack size.

Poker

So this may be a dumb question, but really I would like to know how you all are able to talk so clearly about poker? You are at ease talking about betting and odds, really reminds me of how much I hope to gain in knowledge here at cc.
I read a few books and play a handful of tournaments a day but really lack any skills written and verbally to talk about hands as so put forth here. I am sure you can tell by my writing of what if any poker skills I may have. I am digging.

Time & Time

Read all the discussions that you can, yeah a lot of them will go right thru you but over time you will start to understand them. Make notes on hands that leave you scratching your head and then post them in the HA section along with what your thoughts were. Then never take any comments personally and the comments that seem personal just ignore. You'll be surprised at how much of a sponge your brain can be.

A tricky element about forums is that some posts are like bluffs or at least semi-bluffs. They're not based on solid values. Tine and experience will help you to recognize them more often and more easily, plus you can speed up the process by training yourself to think about why you should lean toward or away from various actions, not just what you should or shouldn't do.

I normally fold A10 and AJ ep position with that stack. It is too hard to know how to play an Axx flop oop. I might play them suited though. Basically I want two pair or a ten high or j high flop when I play them
