Here's a little bit of background. I play quite a bit of online poker, but I really prefer live. For my online BR I keep it simple and don't buy in to anything more then 5% of my BR. Do I need that large of a BR for low limit live play? When I play live I'm usually playing 3/6 limit or 40-60 mtts. It just seems over the top needing 2k before I can play those. What would you guys suggest? 10%? 5%? I will still go play occasionally when I can't resist, but I want a goal for when I can start moving up a little bit. Plus once I have a BR I'm going to Vegas!

First you need to know your skill level and opponents skill level to make an accurate assesment. I play $33 and $35 MTT's (36-54 players) at american legion and eagles and these games are extremely soft, blinds (15min levels) start at 5-10, then to 10-20, 25-50 and essentially double every 15 mins with 5250 in starting chips. I have a 40% cash rate at the moment (4 of 10 tourneys), but have put off playing these regularly until I can get at LEAST 700 saved so I can play 20 tourneys, but im also going very deep in every single tournament. The crowd is old Nit's who are easy to steal pots from, drunks who you have to avoid them blowing themselves up, and about 5 regular good players. In this environment I think 20 buyins at my skill level is a good start. Give me some more info about the games, where they are held etc. and i'll give you a better assesment. My online cash rate is 18%, whats yours? I hope I can help some. With no more info I'd say $1000 for 3-6 limit, and $1500 for those MTT's @ minimum

I would say it comes down to how much you enjoy playing a specific buy in and whether or not you can afford it.

theres nothing worse than going to play a cash game and blowing off half your weeks wages in a bad session and not feeling great.
As long as you can identify what you want out of poker and your long term goals you should structure a bankroll around this.

For example if you wanna play 2 nights a week live (like myself) for some extra cash and you do quite well usually.
Limit yourself to 1 buy in or 2 buy ins per session at the very most. never reload more than twice if you lose 2 buy ins call it a night.

now if you have 20 buy ins you have enough there to play 10 weeks assuming you play twice a week (or weekends) and lose every session.
Which is unlikely.
Assuming your a good player who uses this forum alot your going to outplay the casino regs and most likely make a profit to some extent whether its small or large. by just playing solid naturally exploiting bad plays.
