Hi All,

I am new to MTTs so suffice to say I only play free rolls which are either turbo(5 min level) or super turbo (2 min level). I tried searching the tournament section for some MTT strategies but could not find any. Maybe its because I did not look in the right place and if so please be kind enough to guide me.

But if not then I request our senior members who have some spare time on their hands to please write us a strategy article that is most relevant to the current structure of the games.

Thank you all!

I'm down. What do you want to know about?

The only thing I wont write about is a fulled detailed article on how to play MTTs because, honestly, there are too many variables to consider. Also, there are a ton of those online already.

But if you have anything more specific, I could probably help with that.

Yes you have to give us specific scenarios, otherwise we would just be writing a very long book, pages and pages and pages, which if thats what you want then buy a book...there are PLENTY out there...but a specific question about a specific situation is fine and should result in quality information....most of the time that is.

Poker is a very situational game, and you can have multiple answers for the same basic scenario, and all may be correct or incorrect depending on the situation at hand. You can not simply ask how do I play a medium pocket pair in early position without telling us things like what other players stack sizes are, who in the game is a maniac or a rock, is it tourney or cash, etc....

Post min cash bubble play, I always find myself going into the money with around 20-30bb but with the increase in blinds and the structure my stack melts away waiting for premium hands to open with. I attempt to steal blinds with 30% of my hands when folded to me in the cutoff.

I dont play to min cash so im not playing stupidly tight to make the bubble, but when your getting bad off suit connectors and low Ax I cant find enough room to play without my whole stack being on the line.

for the bsics I would suggest the PSO (pokerschoolonline) run by poker stars. they will give the basic ideas and tourney scenarieos. as well their are tests you can take and with passing grade and small deposits you get a ton of tourney tickets

Thanks everyone for pitching in! And I agree, the cover all scenario would be too broad and cumbersome to cover. But as I said I am fairly new to the MTTs so please don't mind if I do not have any valid questions here. Also if there is some good material out there can someone link them here? As for the books, I have read the Harrington volumes (part 1 & 2), are there any others I should be reading? I had purchased the Kill everyone but have not dug into it yet.

And just so you know, I play solely on 888, the Level 30 & below plus the "Go for Gold" free rolls. I get ITM like 20-30% but have never made it very far. Therefore I am not really sure what I should be asking or studying for these structures. A general guideline (brief of course) would be very helpful for the different levels with some hand selection and whether to flip for it in these levels.

I do understand that posting a specific situation here would be more useful then asking for general guidelines so ill start tagging these situations going forward for posting and analysis. For now this is all I can think of:

For the 5-6 min level tournaments:

-Should I play hands as per position?

-Should I be flipping with Ok premium hands like AJ+, 88-JJ in the early stages? Also if I have these hand and 1 or many are already all in? How safe do I play before the bubble or how much should I value my tournament life?

-If I get to the flop with a strong starting hand but missed it or am on draw, should I be betting or calling or just fold and give up? (generally of course, as everything is so situation specific)

-Should I completely stay away from bluffing?

-With tables changing so fast how do I get a read on the crazy villains?

-What HUD stats should I be heavily relying on for tournaments? Also what ideal stats should I be having?

For the 2min level tournaments:

-Is there any point of c/r apart from AI? Anything other than all in seems like leaking chips where are far too valuable here.

-I often find myself dwindling on the 1-3 M, does that mean I should even be shipping with the likes of Jx or 67s/o?

-I get that luck has a lot to do with super turbo but a short strategy would be really helpful and I hope not that cumbersome.

One thing I want to say to you - you could be nice player just after serious MTT you win. Big MTT are 10+ minutes blinds. Do not play Turbo, if you want to learn how to play big poker.

You should watch "The Poker Bank" Youtube channel. There's a lot of strategies for beginners, middle skills and semi-pro!

Thanks, especially for putting the link! I read few of their general poker posts but did not know they have a YouTube channel as well.

Sounds intriguing but I think it will stick with the known dynamics till I get the hang of it and then start to spread my wings
