I have noticed that i usually do better in an evenings MTT's when i started donking out early in one. Thing is, days when i decide i want to play some MTT's, i usually start looking in the PS list and usually catch whatever strikes my fancy as the first one. And i usually donk out pretty fast.

But somehow that improves the results i get in the later ones as opposed to the days, where i dont do a "donk starter".

It seems to me that the donk out MTT works as a warm up for the later ones. Maybe it simply helps me focus on the MTT basics and refocuses my mind after a days work. Or maybe its just superstition?!

What kind of warm up do you guys do before an evening of playing?

My warmup consists of winning... lol, nah sometimes you just hop on and forget to play your game, your getting to caught up in the nonsense because you just started playing.

Try playing a sup turbo sng as a warm up if you want to donk out.

A lot of players will review their hand histories from previous games to warm up for a new session. Or they'll come to Cardschat and read some of the threads, just to get them stimulated about the upcoming session.

As far as busting out of a tourney leading to better results, I would imagine that it's mostly your selective memory tricking you into thinking it really works. Sorry :(

Warmming Up is good.

Anytime I sit down to a mtt, without a warm up. I seem not to do as well as I could. It's like playing that first game of the day without your moning coffee.

I go over and simulate a heap of shove/fold spots using various poker software.

I may review a few random tournaments, or one's ive marked.

Everyday before play i review the day before's marked hands.

If needed, and i find a trouble spot, i filter those troubles spots down in HEM and review a heap of hands and see if i agree/put them into other poker software to review.

And as always, have some water, energy drink/coffee, powerbars or just have breakfast before you play to keep you fresh. Oh and i always have to make sure i have my desk completely cleared of crap before i play, otherwise it just annoys me all session :D.

You could very well be right. After having written down my thoughts here, i went through a bunch of old MTT's and couldnt really find the pattern.

The "donk a tourney" strategy replaced a feeling i had, that the MTT's i played in the morning, just after breakfast, was more successfull than the later ones. Mostly due to me being fresh in both body and mind.

Maybe poker is driving me nuts? Next ill start wearing a rabbits foot on a string around my neck, go twice around the desk before logging in and always bet broadway hands with my left hand on the mouse... :stupido2:

Whoa! Thats is truly focused behavior. (Although the desk thing seems a bit compulsive  )

Ill putter about the place, make coffee, eat breakfast, read some news and then get into it.

I'm still doing a few hours here and there where i look at HEM stats and try to make sence of it all. Caught a few things, but i need to be more on top of that. Dont think i'm getting all that i could out of that software. Wish HEM had a "share online" function, so we could share some of the stuff in the forums.

Ahh, third cup of coffee. Think its time for a game :D
