Value betting rivered nuts - HELP!?

Twice now I've rivered the effective nuts when I've spiked a King or an Ace when playing KK and AA and my value bets just get folded to. This may just be a standard situation where I'm always getting folds (missed draws, etc.) but it's frustrating.

For example, albeit this isn't an 'I have the nuts' situation, I had aces on a board of KT72A. In this instance I was slow playing the aces and the original aggressor checked the river to me. He may have been betting with a 10 or even a King but I never know how much to bet in these spots. The pot was about £60, we both had around £150 behind in 10p/20p and I went for 2/3 pot - £40, which saw a fold.

Should I be making it a lot smaller - £25 for example?? Or even £10?

no real answer

always depends on other player and how he's been playing and you and how you've been playing

hard to get a call in the situation you described though since he's representing a king. well guess what an ace came on the river, so doesn't matter if you have 1 ace or 2 it still has him beat and that is exactly what you're representing you have when you bet the river (he could even think you have QJ and hit the straight)

not knowing anything about you or other guy, if you wanted a call you might have tried an overbet like you were stealing the pot

he might be enticed to call if bet is suspiciously big

other option is probably going very small since then he will call for pot odds but i suspect you want more than a min bet called

by betting 2/3 pot you made it look exactly like what it was, a value bet

he probably will not call unless he has 2 pair

good luck

In general, the calling range here is inelastic, so you should go bigger, like you have been. What you have to remember is that when you have close to the nuts, a lot of the time, you block the kind of hands that can call you. But, if villain has a set or two pair he's unlikely to fold to any size and if he just has 2nd pair or a missed draw, he's very unlikely to call, so you'd be better of just going big and targeting the times when he does have something and when he doesn't, that just bad luck. You'll make more in the long run going for bigger value bets even if they get called slightly less often.

i think you shouldnt slowplay the aces until the river. its ok to do that preflop sometimes however on the flop and turn you can make some value bet of half the pot or 2/3 of the pot. your river bet wasnt that bad maybe you should had bet less than half the pot to make villain believe you had a weak hand and to induce him to make a re raise bluff to win the pot.

This.

Obv don't know any details about the hands, but it sounds like villain didn't really have anything anyway because a lot of players will bet two streets then check/call bad rivers for pot control. Def size it larger. He won't call even small bets with air but will have trouble folding his value hands and the large sizing might make him think you're bluffing.

On the whole I usually bet 1/3 pot when I know i have the nuts and I want the villain to call on suspicion. That being said it gets called 1/3'ed of the time I find.

I would suggest you're losing value with that sizing YtM especially at the micros or live where people don't really pay attention to sizing.

If you have the nuts, other players have less cards to go with you to showdown.
There is no one answer how to play, but I love to play like I am confused, because many times other players think I don't know how to play the action, so they believe I am not strong here and then pay my bets.
