So playing the Grand Daddy which is a $3 tournament on 888, my stack is 29k and UTG +1 is about 10k, I 3 x it to 2.1k b(Blinds are 350/700, UTG+1 3 bet shoves, not many notes on him at all, so I am kinda guessing a ABC player, I tank and call with my 1010, I kinda put him on AK or med pair.

Was I right to call, or was I prised in to call the race ?

I need more info on the guy, is he a Nit, is he a loose player, i need at least 5-10 hands with the guy to start guessing his range, like this, there is very little to go from, but lets try it, soon as u open x3bb u were saying, at least how would have i understand it "come on lets play a big pot, here ill start" so pocket pair at least worst hand AK, but like i said b4 have to play at least 10 hands with u to try and guess your range, with blinds 350/700 an all in shove from a 10K stack usually means top pair AA or worst off KK, again loose player could shove here even with 44 coz he heard from the russians that 4`s never lose :D if u think he was a ABC player i have to say ABC player will also shove here with AA or KK, they are tight with their allins, so i dont think he had theere AK but thats just my opinion, again, not very much to go from here, were u priced in to call, hell nooooooo, 2.1K to save 8K more if u called, out of 29K, far from priced in, sooooo what did he had? tell me I WANNAAAAA KNNNOOOOOOOOOWWWWW :D

This is a pretty standard spot. There's like 19bb in the middle (inc antes which I assume are 50) and you have to call a further 11bb. The pot is laying you 1.75:1 meaning you need ~35% equity for the call to be correct. Even if we give the short stack a relatively conservative range of 66+,AQs+,AQo+ you have just over 50% making it an easy call. In fact, even if villain was a super nit and only did this with QQ+,AK you still have the right odds. Even more so when you have 40+bb so are not risking your tournament life but are increasing your likelihood of a deeper run.

There is really no reason to open to 3x at this stage in the tournament. Around 2.2x is fine here and is pretty standard too. As stacks get shallower and you get deeper 3xing actually costs you quite a bit as you are getting reshoved on often and it makes steal attempts unnecessarily expensive.

I would spend some time studying push fold spots for short stacks and also calling ranges. This not only helps you when short, but allows you to effectively play against the shorter stacks that is especially beneficial as you get deeper.

While I am not advocating calling off this loose, or opening up this loose especially UTG... Just as a demo excercise, against a range of 66+, AQs+, AQo+, you can actually call off with a range as wide as the following before it becomes an unprofitable call:

55+,A2s+,K5s+,Q8s+,J8s+,T8s+,98s,A7o+,K9o+,Q9o+,JTo

Now there are a lot of other factors to consider so the above range would not necessarily be the correct range to call here (and I would advise against it), but it just shows how the blinds, antes and our open sizes make significant differences to ranges. Most people in tournaments do not adjust well to this deeper in the tournament on shallower stack sizes, folding too often and shoving far to tight.
