Today I was playing in a Betonline $200 freeroll that got 1200+ runners in it. It got down to the money bubble which payed 40 places. When it got to 44 left another player at my table was extremely short only had 3BB and I noticed he was using every second he could to make his play. So having been in that exact situation myself, trying to sneak into the money, I wrote in chat that I would use my complete timebank (120secs+) to try and help him make it into the money. No one else at the table did this, and when the buble finally burst he had less than 1 BB and made the money. He thanked me in chat and then another person at the table made a comment to the extent of why don't you dumba**es stop taking for ever to play.

How do you guys feel about this? I get not wanting to slow the game down, but the guy made it through 1200+ people down to 40 and I thought it was a nice gesture. it wasn't down to hand for hand yet until 41 so by time banking I prolly got him in the money. I ended up making it to 14th place so maybe the good karma payed off.:D

This is a very interesting thing !!!
And this is very human, most players are angry with their opponents, and try to pull the bank to themselves with all their might and do not think about others !!!
I am with you and support you!
In live tournaments this is considered a violation !!!

Could be looked at as collusion but unlikely the site would do anything after a one off imo.

Yeah, the hell with all the players who have spent the same amount of time getting to that point as this guy, the main thing is to slow down the game & try to make yourself feel good. Probably is or borders on collusion, but hey, why should the rules apply to you. Go for it.

Yes that is something I wouldn't even consider doing in a live mtt. I just know how it feels to have enough to pay your blinds 1 maybe 2 more times and be 2 or 3 off the money. Just glad it worked out and only the one player getting worked up over it. thanks for your feedback.

ive done it in past randomly i use the time bank to raise the blinds if in lead there for sure i dont table talk on it

ive had bol tables 2-3 of them talk about me badly for my behavior but they can tell someone who cares:)

I dont do it just to do it though it is a strategy bigger blinds make people make mistakes and when deep in the 300 guar free running up the blinds works or time especially if have a deep stack

for the collusion i would do what makes you happy just never talk about it

What you did is the same thing some drivers in the right lane at a stop light do: they stop and let someone coming out of the parking lot pull in front of them. That gesture, of course, is appreciated by the driver who benefits from an easy exit from the parking lot, but it makes another driver from the street miss the green light. So, you help one stranger at another stranger's expense. If you are okay with that, fine. But keep in mind, you should not stop when you have the right of way with drivers behind you, nor should you abuse the time button, it is disrespectful for the other people.

Seems like the karma paid you back by finishing 14th!! I had done it twice in the past as well in order to help some random players but I had just prolonged my decision's time by 3-4 seconds. It may sounds selfish but I would had never spent my time bank for someone else haha.

No matter what the other opponents of yours were thinking but ok with no doubt it was a genuine kind gesture by you. :D

You got to realise that someone else was the bubble boy.

Why does the guy at your table deserve special treatment?

Looks like collusion to me honestly. Ofc It would be very hard to prove but If I were you Id be careful letting it be known in the chat. Id honestly do It for a personal friend, but not for some random dude.

I'd never comment about it in chat if I do it (and I have in the past). However, as for as anyone having an issue with it , too damned bad. Your time clock is the amount of time you have to act! You can do whatever you want with it. I am at the table to play for myself but if I use all of it that is my right and it may or may not be a coincidence that it helps someone else. I am not in anyway concerned with anyone's opinion about it. It's within the rules to use all of your time bank.

I generally play pretty fast though cause I rarely focus on a single table. But I had a couple of idiots start yelling @ me one year, cause when I got close to the $$ in a $300 freeroll 2k+ plyrs, I came back to the table after going to the bathroom and 2 plyrs were completely rude about it yelling caling me names and trying to shame me, finally demanding after I explained why I left that I should have clicked on "sit out" demanding I had no right to use up my time bank like that and I was a __ and blank___.

After telling each of them to go ___ themselves I then slow played slow rolled whenever against them. If I am playing within the confines of the rules anyone else can disagree with my play but if they attack me or have the delusional fortitude to think they can tell me how to play they can go ___ themselves!

It was especially fun to know one of them out of the tourney unfortunately it was after we made the $$$

The person in chat was right, you were being a dumbass.

Being kind is one thing. You can wish the short stack good luck and hope they make it in the money if you want, but don't purposely mess with other players games.

While it is in your right to use the time bank as you wish, you do realize that using it in a negative way affects everyone at the table, right? Not just 2 people. It affects everyone, including yourself. If you're going to step away and not be back in time for the next hand, sit out so other players can continue playing. What hand decisions do you have to make that requires a timer while you're off dropping a deuce? None.

So, yeah, you were a dick by not sitting out and slowing the game down for everyone else. And then, your feelings got hurt and you became an even bigger dick to everyone else at the table by slowing the game down even more.

You have acted with dignity. In a situation where there are 44 players in the game and the prize zone starts with 40 players, you will also protect yourself, unless you have a huge stack with which you need to press the entire table. Well, getting into prizes for a player with a short stack can change a lot for him. And on how other players behave at the table, do not pay attention, you, including, disbalance their game, which may be in the subsequent hands with them, only a plus for you.

I do think there is no problem about it at all. It was a generous gesture of solidarity with someone who is at your table and struggling to get through the bubble. Why not to help with? I did it already sometimes too and i don't think it's something to be ashamed of, even conversely brings a positive emotions to that guy and could even make a friendship at some cases. Of course, there are always other shorties at other tables, who exactly the same struggling to not become a bubble. So why not to help that guy you are playing with the whole game to get at least his buy-in paid. It's really something about solidarity. However i wouldn't use the whole of my time bank for that, but i could imagine to slow down my moves or something like that.
And after all it is also kinda profitable for me to do so too, because even as a bigger stack you could be involved in a nasty cooler hand against bigger stack and become a bubble yourself! So at least when the bubble time is over you are safe from that risk.

Well i think it's a bit exaggerated comparison. As i wrote at last two sentences, everyone at the table has that risk to be a bubble boy too! And therefore everyone should be happy to get through that and get into the money, or not? Of course, if your table playing slowly, obviously you will see less hands until blinds increase, but it also means you are less likely to get cooler hand dealt which by a bad fortune could probably kick you out of the tournament as a bubble boy even with a bigger stack. So it seems to be a win-win situation at the end of the day and in your example it isn't.

It depends on your desire to help. But there are such lousy players that I myself want to throw out of the tournament.

Very nice and very human. But I have never got the help like this from other players. If you don't mind using your time bank then it is a very good gesture.

Thanks for the reply's everyone. I realize now that I should of just kept it to myself instead of saying something through chat and if I wanted to use my time bank for that purpose then so be it. I'm sure they would of still come to the same conclusion as to what I was doing, but I like to help someone when I can, and as I learn more about poker and the proper etiquette I will know when and where to do things. Thanks guys and gals

So, yeah, you were a dick by not sitting out and slowing the game down for everyone else. And then, your feelings got hurt and you became an even bigger dick to everyone else at the table by slowing the game down even more.

I completely disagree with this statement and the implied implication. IF I run the time bank, utilize all of it (which is usually full because I rarely use it while at the table). That gives me up to 60 seconds to get back and see another hand without losing a potential blind if you can't see that - oh well!

as for dropping a deuce never said that was what I did but go ahead and assume - just as you assume what I am doing is negative to my own play.

As for it being negative to everyone at the table? If everyone stops using the time bank I am happy to do so as well but it even happens in CC games. So I do not see the point in doing something to fulfill an etiquette of the game only a small portion of players adhere to especially in bingo fests like public freerolls.

So I am a dick for not sitting out and utilizing a time bank meanwhile players constantly do this whether they are playing multi-tables or a single table or streaming and get distracted. Their are countless reasons this happens and it happens often, but its nice to see that you have a clear and concise understanding of exactly what the issue is, try to imply I am shooting myself in the foot, regardless of being a part of that particular instance - your insight is awe inspiring!

I think we must have all done this at one point. I was in one game where our whole table was doing this to help a player at our table make the money. I don't think you should say anything about it just so as not to hurt the feelings of by the book players at your table. I can also remember a few games where the table helped me to make the money and it was appreciated.:D:D

You did at your discretion. But in the poker room you may be suspected in collusion or cooperative play.

Collusion or co-op play against the rules of all poker rooms, the punishment - a ban with confiscation of funds, so I do not advise to participate in such schemes because the risk is greater than the possible profit.
