I have been kicking around an idea and am wondering if anyone has tried it or what you all think of this idea.

Most people use there I-Pod to play music when they are playing or so I assume. But the idea to put tracks on it with poker advice recently popped into my head. Tracks like the start of the tourney the middle of the tourney the end game. Were each track would give a run-down of what to think about and how to play during each part of the tournament. Also there could be tracks like against a tight player against a loose player…..

What do you think? Do people do this already?

I did think about that but I would make them short and to the point so no more than 2-5 min. I am thinking I would only be distracted during one or maybe two hands. Then switch back to music or just have nothing on until I feel I need another refresher.

Something Ivy said made me think it was not a great idea also. He said learn everything you can then when you sit down to play forget it all and just play.

I agree with dakota. It would be to distracting, If you are paying a lot of attention to something else while playing poker then you are probaly not going to do to well.

I've been doing this for quite some time. I mixed them in with my music rotation which helped it not get overwhelming. Cause Dakota is right - I tried doing the book on tape at the table but way too distracting/confusing etc.
But now the state gaming commission outlawed any electronic device at the table so I can't use them. Want them? Professionally done.

I need to focus on playing poker. I don't use an iPod.

Are you also the guy w/the hat down low & sunglasses on?

Yeah I use an ipod and relaxing music to keep me calm. I am new to live so the music helps me stay relaxed because at first I thought people always knew when I was bluffing because they could see me in front of them, but now I am getting more used to it and realizing that not all players are too observant and learning how to remain calm while executing bluffs.

No I have actually never even listened to music at the table. Not very concerned about covering my face.

I use my ipod when i am playing online. Mainly to drown out the barrage of chat coming from the wife in the other room.

Live I have tried it, but you just miss out on so much information, and you come across as a bit of a dick tbh. Remember live fish perfer losing to the chatty friendly person not the hoodie wearing dude with headfones and sunglasses that fails to open their mouth all night.

First, I am the guy w/the hat down low & sunglasses on (half the time).

You are assigning a bunch of baggage to earphones that isn't necessarily true. Failing to open your mouth all night does not have be part of the gear.

You can still be friendly with earphones, and even sunglasses and a hat.

I have used all of it and am pretty much known as the table character - the guy that's fun to play with. Made a bunch of friends out of knowing nobody at the table. Nothing better than for me to be headbanging at the table and have some twenty-something ask me what I'm listening to and to see his expression when I say, "The Sex Pistols" (true). You see I am pushing 60. Now that's fun - for the whole table.

But you know sometimes I need some help getting into the zone and all of the above are tools for that - if you don't like it - I just don't care. If it bothers you - even better.

I think whether it's a significant distraction or not will depend on each individual.
If you can effectively play many tables online, you probably can listen to music or podcasts while playing live. Also you are blocking out some boring convos other players at the table might be having....which I find that distracting at times.

If you are looking for something to break tedium between hands why not try something like this? https://www.cardschat.com/forum/poker-software-tools-61/android...e-beta-207855/

There's another App like this out there already, that I remember hearing about.
Seems this sort of thing would keep you focused/your head in the game too.

For me, tracking the players at my tables has proven to be a huge benefit. I have been creating a personal coding system not unlike the ones used in on-line HUDs. I wont give details b/c it took me too long to perfect but you don't need an App to track just someplace to take simple 3-5 character alpha/numeric notes.

I use phone & pandora to keep me entertained while some high end headphones keep me apprised of all conversations (better than I can hear them without) & I just take 10 seconds to make a note about a player when called for, on my cell.

I would love to see what you put together.

I don't mind the perception b/c I am sort of a dick tbh. But I'm there to install respect/fear and send everybody home broke, not make friends. :D

I first tried my current system in the only "Rated" Majors tournament series I played this summer and it worked out ok.
