Hi!

This is my first post on any poker fourm!!! I usually try and avoid this kind of thing for my own reasons... I just have a strange problem and would like to see if anyone might have a useful opinion.

Im a 21 year old stoned n drunk canadian. I play pokerstars, user id: blazedhobo. Mainly tournaments and sngs.

I have a good view on how to play poker, but whenever i try and follow a good bankroll management style it is almost like my subconcious wants me to fail. I just read this book called the Midas Method which might help, but have failed to find anyone with information on this that is directly related to poker.

Ive profited and cashed out more than many, and but am at zero again because i like to live and spend money. Im having a really hard time starting again with next to nothing. My mindset towards the smaller amounts is not nearly what it use to be.

Could someone maby help me get a better grip on what i could do to improve my mindset?

Any well thought out opinions or help would be greatly appreciated!

Thank You,

Ben Darling

It's unfortunate that you apparently chose to withdraw ALL the money. It's important to keep your poker bankroll and your everyday money separate.

withdraw only what your limits allow so that you feel comfortable playing your limits.
eg: If you play $10 games, have at least $500 in your bankroll.

Here's a good read for you.
https://www.cardschat.com/build-your-online-poker-bankroll.php

As for family and friends, they do not need to know your full bankroll, it's alright to lie a little, after all they can't see your online roll without your permission.

I don't see how any of the BRM suggestions (which I'm sure you're very well aware of anyways) is any help to the situation/question you've posed here??? (maybe they'd be good repies if you could now do things differently.. but isn't it 'after the fact'??)
To me it sounds like >> I've been rolled to play at levels I play profitably at and ones I'm comfortable (or like/enjoy, etc.) but now am starting off from scratch & am having a fk of a time getting into the zero to hero grind all over again. Who could blame you... the play in the super micros is the shits at best & although it's fun the first time or two around, it could get to really suck after awhile.

If you have played SNG/MTT profitably you actually sound like a good candidate for getting yourself staked. Why not consider that as an avenue as opposed to donking along in the super micro donkaments? (incidentally, there's no staking on this site... but am sure you could find plenty of backers out there if you looked around). Pretty sure this is what I'd do if I were you. You might also find it easy to get into a good mindset proving yourself while staked, & playing at buyin levels where you're able to show you've been profitable in the past. Why not??

That's one heckuva jump in there. I take it you won that $50 tourny and hit a big payday. Your ROI is pretty high acrosss the board though, so if you play enough volume you should be doing pretty well.

Just ease up on blowing through the dough man, gotta say no to things here and there. I have the same problem, went through about $3k on nothing tangible in the last month cuz I spend it like it's going out of style.

Oh I think I understand. You play solid poker, slowly ginding, and then you have 3 big tourney cashes in a short time. Probably a combination of a lot of luck and good play.
After that its difficult to go back to the small stakes grinding, and its only natural that you get delusions of grandeur.
So you overvalue your own play and at the same time have a period when its not going for you. That affects your game, and you start playing worse than before, and probably a bit too high.
So you need to take a step back, find your way back to your A-game, and realize that variance is a huge factor in poker. Good play does pay off in the long run, but no matter how good you play there will be times when nothing works.
Beeing able to cut the losses is just as important as maximizing the winnings.

The opinions you guys have given me are far beyond what i was expecting. Thanks so much!

only_bridge- u are like 100% completely correct! verry cool!

Mase31683- ur right i did get and do some shit i didnt really need to. alot of it went into payin debt from school and things tho. I will definetly be more careful next time.

Poker Orifice- i will consider tryin to get staked. I dont think i fully understand the concept tho. If anyone wants to tell me where and how i can learn please do.

shinedown.45- i like ur ideas and will be more careful with who and how i tell ppl about my roll.

Thanks again!

Nice Jump in profit there dude.

21 still young. Get some work for spending money and let your poker BR build so that you can take a big win (150K +). Then blow half of that money living life at your edge and getting some good ole life expereince and your heart bruised by all the pretty girls. Then, after youve figured out who you are figure out what you want to do for the rest of your life so that your heart sings when you wake up in the morning. And ofcourse, play poker in your spare time because its such a cool Effing game!!!!

You dont have to micro stake build if you get a lil work on the side to cover a 1K deposit: then play the games youve obviously got the skill to beat--and having learnt from your previous lesson---dont spend from your BR!!!

you guys have helped so much!

I tried getting staked online, but u have to build a rep and gain trust with small stakes games. It doesnt seem like a good deal from my perspective (would u think its verry profitable giving away 60% profit + the buyin to stakers on many small stakes games over long periods of time????). Maby it is probitable, but looks like a verry slowwwww process.

sooo i descided to deposit $25 yesterday, won 5/7 of the sngs i played and stopped at $110. I wanted to keep playing, but felt if i was to play any longer i would be unlucky.

You cardschat forumers really helped me get my mind in the right place again, thanks!

Problem sounds like your lifestyle is higher than the amount of money you can bring in from poker. My friend had a successful business. It made plenty of money. Problem was some of the profits was used to pay for a place to live. Soon no more business. If your lifestyle spends more than you can bring in from poker, you might have to work to make up the difference. Getting stoned and drunk is good money that could be being spent entering tournaments.

Donald Trump used to be up a few Billion and in a few years he'd be broke, them up a few billion and then broke again. he got wise and got some good coaching to get his head right. Now I hear he's up over 6 billion. Not bad. The best poker strategy can't overcome self-sabotage and other negative head-trips.

I love to watch the old Maverick series. Bart allways kept $1000 dollar bill Pinned to his jacket where the highway men couldnot find it easily. Maybe you could stash your stake money away somehow. Of course keeping this stash intact will be a matter for self discipline.
