So this is a repost because I realized I posted it in the wrong section. I'd love to hear any input regarding the two hands below.

Hey all, this is my first post but I've been reading cc for a while now. Anyway, because I'm a student and it's more conducive to getting my work done, I have played almost exclusively online over the past several years. However, due to the recent shut down I decided to take a stab at a live tournament last night at one of my local charity card rooms. I wasn't sure how I would fare being relatively inexperienced live and having played primarily sit n' gos. The tournament was $40 10k deep stack with an extra 1k for only $1 and it ended up having 36 players with the top 5 cashing. The play ended up not being as tough as I had expected and although I usually was below average in stack size, I made it deep by taking advantage of a lot of tight-passive play by shove stealing frequently. There are two hands however that I'm still debating on whether or not I played them correctly.

Hand 1:
7 players left and I had just taken a small chip lead two hands prior with about 73k. Blinds are at 3k-6k. I'm on the big blind looking at Qc5s. The pot gets two middle position limpers, sb folds and I check. Flop came Qs8c10c and I try to take the 21k pot with a 20k bet, hoping to push out any draws. Guy to my left folds and the next guy thinks for a second and shoves for 52k. The raiser had not been in a lot of hands so I gave him respect and laid down leaving myself 50k and 4th largest stack with 2 spots to the money.

Hand 2:
4 players left blinds at 6k 12k. I'm bb with 83k before posting. Big stack folds under the gun and button shoves for 82k. Short stack sb calls for 42k and I'm looking at QsKs with a tough decision. I definitely don't like calling against 2 all-ins but with such high blinds its hard to say what the shoves are. Calling and winning takes out two players and leaves me in the chip lead heads up. Winning cripples me basically sends me out in 4th place. I make ended up making the call, and almost immediately regretting it feeling that it probably would have been better to see if the short stack busts and finding a spot where I could be the agressor. The button shows A6 and and sb shows AK. Flop comes 10 J x but no one hits anything and I lose the main pot and side pot to A high. My remaining 1k gets blinded in next hand and my 74 goes down against AJ, go figure. I cash 4th place for a $31 profit, not bad for my first live game. However, the jump between 4th and 3rd is an additional $110. Now the short stack didn't end up busting so it still would have been 4 handed with high blinds but I left kicking myself for not throwing that one away and saving my chips for my own shove.

hand1: Thats such a wet board I would have bet small into that pot to see if anyone was interested. You get reraised, you can muck with only losing about 8-12k vs the 20 you did. You are at best up against a straight draw or flush draw and worst a serious dog either, out kicked or utterly crushed. There are so many hands that have you beat that folding where you did was correct.

hand2: KQ looks good but ask yourself what would the button shove with? Any pocket pair 66+, any Ax or 2 paint cards. What would a short stack call his tourney life with? JJ+, AK,AQ maybe AJ.. KQ is likely dominated by one or both of those hands. This is an easy fold.

sahggyB said it all think, but i want to add that it's not an easy fold in hand2, because i made the experience that KQ is really strong. So i would't fold it easily.

@ballack I just ran the ranges in poker stove. Given the ranges above, KQ is a 22%, the button is at 27% and the SB is 50%

While I can understand that its a big hand and you want to get it in and hope you hit and win. The numbers show you are unlikely to win. Best bet is to fold and wait for a better spot IMHO.

Hand 1...Awfully aggressive play at this stage with a board like that. It's good to pick your spots, but I feel like this is an odd spot to pick.

Hand 2...Against two all-ins at this stage you are probably behind with KQ suited...someone probably has an ace rag and you'd need to hit your flush or pair your two cards to win.

Thanks for the input guys. I basically agree with everything that was said and when things were over I was not happy with the decisions I made on those two hands. One thing that I forgot to mention was that the original shover in Hand 2 had shoved pre-flop and shown king high several times since there were about 8 players left, which is what gave me the motivation to call down my KQ. However, I definitely agree that with the short stack calling before me I should have just made the fold.

Live and learn... I've definitely made those calls before and also immediately regretted it. Just remember that you will get to see those 2 hands and know just how bad of a dog you were and then you can feel good that you made a good laydown. Of course, there will be times when you have JJ and the preflop shover and caller both have AK then you are like dangit! should have called. You just have to write that off the same when you get your AA cracked.

the first would be kind of hard for me to let go and leave myself with less than 10bb, especially after betting out the 20k...the person who said before that you were probably behind is probably right, but idk that just seems like a spot where i feel like my hand would beat the draws the person would shove with...idk, it was probably a good laydown, i just dont think i'd b able to make it..

the second hand is a much tougher laydown, but like it was said before, given the 2 allins before you, u kind of have to lay that one down...u basically know at least one of them has you dominated, and at best you have to catch one of ur cards to even stand a chance...ur basically hoping to catch a flush when you make that call...the part that would make folding easier for me is knowing i'd see the people's cards regardless if i folded or not, and i'd see that i made the right decision....still a tough fold tho just because the blinds were where they were and KQs looks so sexy....congrats on the profit tho
