New to the site but not that new to the game. I am a pretty much a sit and go player that does the occassional MTT when I have the time. I play a lot at night after work and Sundays when I am not up too much.

My question is Turbo or not too Turbo?? That is the question! I am not a fan of them myself I like to take my time and I do not like being rushed. I am not a fan of the preflop all-in and I feel turbo's kind of force some of that action. So that is my general thought; I was looking for other peoples points of view so as to look at it on another angle maybe.

Depends what format you play, the more players, the more the accelerated playing speed will affect you. Also generally turbo has a larger population and thus more fish.

On the other hand hyper turbos are a huge friggin joke. The swings have killed more than one valliant grinder.

And you copying **** the turbo or not to turbo joke was my idea!!!
Just kidding :p

I prefere non turbos but I am not sure. I might try some turbos. Turbos have more fish and more regs but are quicker to play

I love turbo !!! Infact i mostly play turbo...I find it very intresting than standard which i feel is a bit passive with 10 to 12 minutes blind level...
In turbo i get controlled action...In standard its either too passive or outburst...

I havent enjoyed turbos as much as a standard limit tourny, it seems in turbos it just becomes a shove fest with any two cards once the blinds start getting up there instead of people playing proper poker trying to win.

turbo or non turbo makes no difference apart from the fact that you will be lowering you starting hand requirements quicker as it always revolve around stack sizes/blind sizes/position

In turbos a lot of players feel that they have to push early when blinds are low and build a stack ....at end of day it -EV to shove 1500 chips into pot to win 45 ?

It's a two sided medal.

Because of the fast increase of blind-levels we will be forced to make fold/shove decisions earlier than in non-turbos but my experience is that a lot of opponents are getting desperate far too early (at least in the micros).

Non - turbos give us the opportunity to see more hands thus if we do have an edge against opponents we will have it more often.

I think it's a matter of personal choice - I don't mind playing turbos, especially if it's a limit game (for example HORSE, Stud or O8 limit ) and/or my time-frame is limited.

Personally I stay away from super-turbos.

For the most part I don't play turbos any more. I just feel like I can get a better read on my opponents over the slightly longer period that non-turbos take. The blinds get big enough at the end without the turbo format forcing the action even more. If I wanted to play roulette, I'd play roulette.

Interesting responses thanks for the input! I should have joined this site a long time ago :) I think I may try a few of them to see if I can adjust to it but for the most part I have a fairly patient game and I do enjoy waiting for people to make mistakes

I think it depends on you. Probably didn't want to hear that though. Here's why.

1. How much time do you have? Obv turbo's are faster.
2. Playing several tables? Non turbo's might give you more breathing room.
3. If you are blessed with patience, then you can sit on a short stack longer.
4. Fish make more mistakes at a non-turbo take inherently because they are at the table longer and see more hands.

Me, I prefer turbos. But if I'm very short on my bankroll, I switch because I'm pretty patience compared to most and that is my edge.

Will not play the super turbos - they are a ridiculous, might as well play allin or fold.

SNG turbo or standard is only decided based upon the time I have to play. MTT's I truly prefer big stack standard or longer levels. If it isn't a big stack MTT than it doesn't matter to me if it is turbo or standard

Once you become more advanced with your SNG play you will come to understand that the basic theory of the game is.... maintain some fe (keep a decent stack size... don't have to play a bunch of pots to accumulate chips..... often better to fold in marg. situations & just keep your chips).... soooo.... that you can get to the end game where shoving is usually the 'correct' play. (ie. we cannot raise/fold with say ~10bb..because once we've raised we're now priced in to call if shoved back on... we are getting the right price to call.... so shove it in in the first place (usually) instead... unless for eg. you have a rookie table and figure that you can all of a sudden open for a standard raise while on a shove-sized stack with say AA/KK/QQ & will actually induce a resteal shove...but against better players it's still better to just shove w monsters as well as it conceals them & balances our shoving range.

SNG (STT) is about getting to the bubble & having a big enough stack to shove with & then KNOWING the shove/fold game (ie. learn about ICM).

Many of the regs. play turbos... their advantage comes from being very experienced/knowledgeable with the shove/fold game.

That is a basic way of playing 9 man sng.

I also think non turbos do have a similar effect as well. When the blinds are lower you can have more chance to bust the fish (see more flops etc). In a non turbo you still get the shove/fold but it just comes a little bit later in the sng.

I think more regs do play turbo because it's a lot quicker and the rake is less.

I like the turbos way better. Most opponents don't know how to play correctly once it becomes push/fold, and a turbo gets it to that point sooner. More tornaments/hour is another nice bonus.
