I like turbos purely because of the speed you can finish a tournament but i'm wondering if you are a decent tournament player are you best sticking to non-turbo tournaments as the variance is lower? You obviously have more time to select which hands to play so its less of a lottery. Just wondering what i should grind out multi tabling because i can play a ton of non turbo games and there seems to be a lot more to choose from at micro limits.

Ideas, from from grinders who do it themselves maybe?

Cheers.

Yes, there is more variance in turbo MTTs because of the rate that blinds increase. The faster the blinds increase, the faster effect stacks decrease. When this happens, you lose plays like effective 3-betting, set mining, etc, and you're put into situations where you have to get your chips in the middle and hope for the best

Turbo MTTs are good if you multi-table them and have a decent understanding of [Turbo] MTTs and know how to make the adjustments. A way to reduce variance is to get more volume in. A good thing about turbos is that they finish a lot faster, so your $/hour is much higher than a normal MTT.

Now, if you're a new player or don't have the BR to/can't multi-table turbo MTTs, then you're better off sticking with normal MTTs. The lower blind speeds allow for more optimal plays, you can be more selective with hands and positions. The only downside is the can be very lengthy at times.

I guess the best option is to play whatever you're comfortable with and whatever you have better results in.

A couple of questions to ask yourself:

1. Which game do I feel most comfortable playing?
2. Which game is the most profitable as far as $/hour goes?
Your win rate may be lower with turbo SNGs, but if you're able to get in a good volume of games for profit, then your $/hour will be higher.

turbos are going to involve more luck, but they can be played intelligently. The biggest thing to recognize is that STACK SIZE IS EVERYTHING. Your stack size determines the types of plays that you can make, and the same holds for your opponents. You have to identify the players whose stacks will lead them to be highly conservative, and fold their blinds every time when raised. You need to be able to exploit those players. Often the blinds will be so high, that going all in is the only play. In that case, WHEN you do it is often more important than WHAT you're holding, as taking down the blinds can be huge. Calling all ins should only be done if you have to. AK and AQ are great for picking off the guys shoving with ace rag, but again, it's always better to be the one shoving than calling.
