To turbo or not to turbo

So lately I've cashed big in a KO tourney and my BR allows me to move up to more intresting stakes. I play mainly HU sng's.
Problem is, the higher stakes are less populated (especially at non-peak hours), so the opportunity to go to the turbo HU games offered itself to me.

Question is, with ~40BI's at the 22+1$ BI level, do I stand a chance at the turbos or would you require more of a bankroll? Also is the proliferation of fish enough to make up for the smaller edge I get from my games?

Please help me out here, any experience with those games is much appreciated.

well i dont think it matters what game you play, moving up + turbos should mean less edge and more variance. im not familiar with the games so i cant really comment further... but i think that 40 should be fine, IF your willing to move down if it doesnt work out. tbh i think you should keep at your current level for a decent period, i dont know how many gmaes youve played or whatever, but staying there and grinding some more cant do any harm.. nice job on the tourney win btw!

and when you move up, learning who are the regs, who are the bad regs, who are the fish etc, can take time.

I probably played about 300 at the 10$ level. But for now I'll be playing the 11$ turbos, see what happens. So far they seem pretty good, haven't hit too many hands either, a couple 'lucky' races though.

yeah with turbos, i guess ICM or push/fold becomes more of a factor, with the non turbos, its more about poker i guess, what hand we can reshove with or whatever..

300 games isn't much of a sample size, id definately stick to the 11's until at least 1k games. that way, you can narrow down your ROI much better..

I always found that turbo / non-turbo was a bigger issue at full tables than it was in HU games but I've never played that high either.

Aside from that, I can't really add to the solid advice WiZZiM is offering.

You would have to have a decent bankroll to play in a higher limit turbo event, because it goes by faster so you have have less hands to wait for that big hand. And even if you get the big starting hand, your not guaranteed to win. So just make sure you have a big enough bankroll so that you can take a bad beat.

I like the turbo MTT structure. You really have to know what strenght your starting hand has. It's almost impossible to play against a player who knows how to handle the turbo's and has a great reading ability. :)

I found those two the most important factors in a turbo MTT.

For HU Turbo, I would say that you have to play many hands.
Anything that's suited, connected, just a high card, pair. Almost everything, and of course you have to be able to read your opponent here as well :)

Turbos always involve the gambling factor much more...
If you like that then play them.
Otherwise stay in your old level.... :dancing:

You made a good choice in trying either turbo or moving up and not both at the same time. It is the same way when runners are training... you either move up in miles or up in pace, but never both in the same week. It is too much for the body to handle and can result in injury. Same with the game, one change at a time or it might be too much on the mind and your bankroll would suffer the injury. :D

Update.

Moved up to the 22$ turbos and the playing style required is very different. Stealing pots is still important, but the sense of urgency makes people go crazy so tight play is way more intresting. Anyway I feel I've adapted to them, it'll be a while before I can multitable them, but it's fun learning new game formats.

Gl playing the turbos, I like the super tourbos better they are more fun to play and faster pace. people make bad plays all the time and if you sit and wait you can do well in them.

I hate the turbo MTT tournaments, but STT and HU, I prefer the turbos.

More action, more tables per hour.

I personally like the Turbos the best. Just for the fact that its usually less rake and for the obvious reason it goes faster. But you also have to not be afraid to loose a big pot on a bluff. Well thats what i have learned from them. Try to steal more then hitting the nuts. Not as many hands as the non turbos. So Turbo away.

Well if you have a good shove/fold stragety then go for turbos. If it's your weaker game then play non turbos. 40 buy ins is probably the mininium amount.

A lot of the online grinders that I've spoken to seem to think that there's more profit to be made playing turbos
