Hypothetical first hand of a MTT at25/50 Blinds and $3500 in starting chips.

Hero has 88 in MP1bets $200 after (1) limper, Hijack calls.
Flop is A45 rainbow, should Hero CBET or check?
Suppose Hero CBETS $250and is called.
Turn is 9, shouldHero Double barrel here?
Suppose Hero DoubleBarrels $500 and is called.
River is a T, shouldHero Triple Barrel?

Now I know what theHijack has in his hand can you put him on something from his calling range?

How should this beplayed?

I think a cbet is order and $250 - $300 is reasonable. I think if raised then its an easy fold, if called I would not double barrel the turn I would check fold to any aggression. 1st hand of tourney I would want to try and preserve some chips. Now the strategy might be a little different if you have any history with villain, or if the tourney is a low buying with rebuys.

Without any history of the villain and being the 1st hand of a tourney I dont think its possible to put villain on hand range, it could be quite wide. Alot of players will play extremely loose the 1st round of a tourney and the 1st hand could be anything.

Isn't checking the turn a weak play giving them the go ahead to bet?
Take a stab at guessing their whole cards if a tight player?

Firstly you need to ask yourself is why your opponent called on the flop, and is he tight or loose? If my opponent is tight, I think 1 c-bet on the flop is enough to know where you stand. Your opponent might hold AK, AQ, AJ or from KK - 99 and want to control the pot; or he might hold AA, 55, 44 and want to extract your money. If your opponent is looser you can also add small suit connectors like 76s, 98s, 54s to his range. In that case you can double barrel on the turn and can get away when he show aggression.

If you play in microlimits , enough one bet in flop , if villain not fold its mean he have something and next better play check/fold... Never bets on all streets . enough one bet in flop , because the players are not so often fold in turn/river what this was profitable in microlimits...

if they're a tight player I doubt the 9 is a decent card to barrel on as it doesn't change much.

I don't think check folding there is a weak play. 1st hand of a tourney, your not going to win the tourney on the 1st hand take a stab with a cbet, and check fold to preserve chips so you can have a chance to win some money latter.

you had to give up already on
the turn as the call of
opponents may be indicative of
a strong hand
