Alright so i'm posting this two days after but here goes,

Played a tourney on Monday buyin of 5 bucks. It was a 15 minute level regular NLHE tournament with 424 players entered. MY strategy for the tournament was to have no fear on the hands I wanted to play and only play premium hands according to my position. My main focus was actually position and size of chip stack. I raised my bets based on my position and I always raised the same size of bet as to not give away my hand. I also looked at my opponents chip stack and compared it to mine before each bet, analyzing if a bluff would be successful or if i would be re raised all in.

The best thing I learned from this tourney was patience :) took shortly under 5 hours. I won due to my patience and not ever fearing losing or hoping for second place and only focusing on first place in my head. I was able to succeed by a little good luck and plenty of patience.

You can do it too :)

Grats! Hard work and patience pays off! By waiting for good hands and good position and extracting max value, you did the right thing.

Good choice on the 15 minute blind structure too. Better than shorter intervals for playing this way.

Grats.

I agree patience and position are huge. Looking at chip stack of players is also critical as some players are forced to shove low cards and play till river which can eat away at a chip lead if they get lucky a few times.

I sometimes chant "first place" to keep my focus.

There should never be any fear.

If I lose in a tourney I have a rule not to berate myself as long as I played the hand correctly. Sometimes your KK are going to face AA. A little luck can help if you keep a positive attitude. :pepsi:

There's a little thumbnail of mountains in the reply box-try that.
But seriously, only $73 for winning a 424 man $5 tourney? Seems like you got jipped out of a $2000+ prize pool. Congrats on being patient and grinding out a win, but I'd be pissed if I only got 5% of the prize pool as winner.

yeah well done on the win. but i agree how did you only get $73 for winning a $5 tourny with more than 400? i would be thinking around $500.

Congrats man! Position is definitely huge. You have to tie it with patience. A great starting hand isn't always the best out of position. you have to be able to fold good hands

Yeah generally with a field of that size you're getting 15% which would be 318...

Edit: With your prize pool im guessing there was around 70 people

yup and patience is the name of the game also when your in a 2 week slump like i am in only 1 final table and dozens of AA KK getting beat and sending me packing. looks like i might be joining the freeroll club here if this keeps up.
