Just want to see some other players thoughts and personal opinion and what they do in tourneys and where and when they start being aggressive. I can make it deep in a tourney but a lot of the time I find myself folding in tight spots to the aggressor and chips start to dwindle. should I become more loose and call with second pairs with X, Obviously it is different when you are playing but just want to hear experience and thoughts on it. Thanks guys.

The advice I was given and what has always pretty much worked for me is to begin a tournament tight. Once you've established a tight/aggressive image, and a lot of the maniacs have eliminated themselves, you can take advantage of your TAG image by widening your range slightly. As the blinds increase and the bubble approaches, you might want to tighten back up some, as the short stacks begin shoving. At the same time, you should keep your eyes open and take advantage of chances to steal from players that get nitty tight.

As for calling with second pair, I don't see any problem with it. You have to realize that for a lot of players making a continuation bet is pretty standard. Just because they bet out after the flop doesn't necessarily mean that they've hit the flop. For some players it's a way of feeling you out to try to see where they stand. For others it's simply aggression to try to induce a fold. Some players will slow down once you call them on the flop. Others will continue firing with air. That's why it is important to pay attention to who you are playing with and how they play, so you will know how to respond in these situations.

It all depends on the situation/position/opponent, and a lot of different factors for me as to when is the right time to get aggressive. It just all depends. There is no exact time for me.

yea, it just feels like the same story most of the time, ill make it into the money then be short stacked. Have to fire most of the time with the best hand and just get sucked out on. Frustrating just wanted to see others advice on mid touney play and what may work for them and what I could possible tryout to see what could potentially be beneficial to my stack and maybe put me into the final table in a good/great spot to win it all.

I personally like to set tones right from the start of the tourney vs fishy/passive players and/or players whom I'm accustomed to there way of playing (CC games are an excellent example)..

In the CC games, I come across as the said "Fish/Donk" (And at times I'm exactly that), yet usually I'm actually thought out into what exactly I'm going to do to the players in the hand...

On a side note (Position/Chip stack and knowing your opponents help)

The best aggression area would be near the bubble but you want to crank it up a little when antes kick in. But in poker everything is situational table dynamics, position ( where are the fish, where are the regs) (whos tight, whos loose.) Stats, stack sizes, etc......

Ya im excited to see with the cc games, I have not had the opportunity to play in one yet, I just want to try some new things out. Personally I have no problem getting bounced out early in a free roll trying something new. Rather see what can work. But yes thanks for your input. Appreciate it maybe see you soon on the tables. Good luck fellow CC member

tourney aggression, where to start in tourney?
Long before you sign in and then build on it from there, right up to the last Hu hand. Why not? seriously?

There is no hard, fast rule. You might find that your initial table is tight and after seeing a couple raises go through unopposed, you decide you wish to start raising a wider range.

Hi guys sorry for butting in again. I'm just a micro tourney player trying to find my feet, they are usually in my mouth lol. I play holdem, plo, plo8 and recently HU tourneys.
Anyway all US poker players love a little brag when the chance happens along.
The last seven MTTs I played i got 4 final tables in the last 4 days. 9th from 270 in $500gtd, 5th from 260 in $500 gtd and 1st place in a $200 HU MTT. an early exit and 7th from 300 in a $700 guarantee mtt. Plus shipped another hu mtt a couple of days ago.
I really am a micro struggler running very hot but like I said in my earlier post.
Tourney agro, where to start????
Long before you sign in and then build on it from there, right up to the last Hu hand. Why not? seriously?.:dancing:

In a nutshell/vacuum, optimally you would want to start tight and end loose.

Obviously take this with a grain of salt as dynamics, your hand, your stack size, other stack sizes, stage of tournament, people remaining etc.... all factor into when you should "be aggressive."

Start tight and pick your spots and killer hands -
As the tourny goes on you can get looser

If you're a beginner, playing tight and straight forward is a good way to start but I'd start to play a more adaptable style once you're comfortable. If the table is tight try to play a bit looser and if it's loose try to play a bit tighter.

If the table is tight then most likely I will open up my range and start the aggression. If the table is loose then most likely I will pick my spots and chill.

I usually play loose from the start if there are a lot of tight players at my table. A loose image serves me well in getting more chips when I get a very solid hand.

yesterday came in 20 something place on stars 10 fpp tourney, I had the chip lead with like 100 to go in a field with 2300, went card dead with a super loose table shuveing their stacks with 40k etc. Was a bad time to go card dead but also I started the tourney at 3 in the morning basically, maybe tiredness played a factor I found myself passing out a couple times lol

IMO as soon as the ante's kick in is a good time to start ramping the aggression, stealing blinds from late position etc

I used to have this problem, I think in general you are just playing too tight. Just start raising in position atleast once per round, later in tournaments picking up blinds and antes really adds up.

I've always had plenty more success playing quite aggressively when it comes to the bubble. Most players will be looking to fold up, to just hang in there a little more until they make the money (they have no thought beyond that ofc). This creates huge potential for stealing, three bets and squeezes, all of which will pay off when people don't want to bust out, especially if your image is TAG.

It depend on the players against you play. If they are more passive than you can be more aggressive to them. Also it depends on the chips that you have. I mean if you have less than 12BB you should be play more cards and be more aggressive, or if you have more than 12BB than you should not be very aggressive and don't play every cards because it's more important to save your chips than to needlessly throw away them. However you have to remember that your game is based on the chips that you have and on the players against you play.
