Why I am always cheapleader on beginning and middle of tournament, but can't win late game?

I am trying to play adequate aggressive.
Easy became one of cheapleaders on tournament. For example 3/500 or 1/150.

Everything is good before late game.

Then i end tournament from 3-30 place.

Pls, I need your wise advises and thoughts abt my mistakes!

Play late stages and final tables as if they are a Sit-n-Go's

The mentality I take when it gets down to about 45 players is to treat it like a multi-table sit-n-go where everyone just starts with different amounts of chips. This not only puts me in a mindset of how to properly play the final 5 tables, but also gives me a slight refreshed feeling at the thought of starting a new tourny. Then, when you get to the final table, treat it like a brand new 9-player sit-n-go, just with different people getting different chips to start with. This mentality especially helps if you have a successful sit-n-go strategy which is different than your MTT strategy.

Probably what's going on is that you manage to beat out a lot of the bad players while the better players are still around in the late stages of the tournament. There is an interesting section of David Sklansky's Tournament Poker for Advanced Players that discusses why the WSOP day one chip leader never wins, it be worth checking out.

your betting has to change. most flops at that stage will only see two or three players all of which will have some kind of hand. and always watch out for a sleeper checking all the time and dont raise the flop as often thats some things i tend to conciously do at the end

Are you shoving a lot in the late stages, rather than seeing flops?

Are you putting pressure on the small stacks, forcing them all-in?

Spend some time learning correct short-stack play and you will start to see better results.

There is a big difference between low blinds deep-stack poker strategy and the high blinds short-stack poker strategy that is required deep in tournaments.

Good luck to you! :D

I did faced a same situation. mostly we loose in the late stages as we play as beginning of the game. it is good to be aggressive in early stages and in the middle you have to be cautious. and stay focused. hope we all learn more with cardschat forum with different players experience and make a good winning formula.

I have the same problem. I feel like I don't have the endurance for Tournaments and start doing stupid things and just shove with any decent hand

I prefer cash games where I can leave whenever I want. And I find the shove or fold preflop boring . That my excuse :D

I have been the same, I can be a tournament leader for a long time, and I play aggressively, but there is always something that always fails me: either hit a better pair than mine, or lose with AA, make a bad bluff way, etc. Sometimes it happens to me that I have an excess of confidence

I find myself also making it deep into tournaments but finding myself outside the final table bubble a lot. The coin flips definitely increase late game. When you are sitting with a top 5 stack with two tables remaining do you find yourself being more aggressive or tightening up until the final 9?

Late part of the tournament can be very, very disappointing. The reason for this is that there us little depends. We play a standard game, nothing special is not performing, because shorts will be happy to shove us all in a row. As a result, we are forced to throw coinflip and going forth, so to come out. We must play that way at least until the departure of most short stacks at the table. Our edge may come mainly from the size of the stack that we have filled in the babble.Very important to understand the range 3bet / 4bet and making all-ins. Bluffs do only very suitable for this situations or against specific opponents. The only place where you can try anything to portray it prefinal table. When a person is 10-14 (under the condition that we have in prizes), sometimes people will start playing more tight, simply because they want to get to the final table, but it is just possible to try to use. In addition, 10-14 people. It is short-handed, which also has to aggression.

A lot gambling comes into play at end tourney you need expect to run deep A lot then get smashed at end unless variance is on your side because the blinds will really start to chew up shorter stacks

This happened to me. I figured out I became more willing to gamble the more chips I had. Ive been trying to save chips for an inflection point in the tournament such as money bubble.
