Especially for players working with a less than favorable bankroll, finding local tournaments on pokeratlas.com is a great way to get a lot of hands without risking to much of your bankroll at one time. In cash games, it can be a much more volatile game, because when one loses money they can just cash back in where as it tournament poker its more about survival then it is extracting as much cash as possible in each hand. So with tournament poker its a fixed cost you can lose and a potentially exponential win if you win. Also, live action tournaments at your local casinos are more likely to be interested in what's known as chopping the pot, or sharing whats remaining of the prize money with the the final few players. I've won a few chopped pot tournaments, placed iin a few others, and won a couple, bringing back anywhere from 350-1200 in prize money. If you can consistently place in tournament poker you can make a consistent turn on your money wheree as in cash game a higher bank can wipe you out.

I agree with this assessment with one exception. If you have a large bankroll and only have to commit a small portion of it to play cash games, then go with cash games BECAUSE people play so loose there. You should play to only play or lose 1 buy-in a day while everyone else is playing to buy in as many times as necessary to eventually win money. This means they are playing looser and your tight play can be extremely profitable in a short period of time. If you buy-in to a cash game and get knocked out, then just go play a tourney and stop with cash games for the day. It'll preserve your bankroll while giving you good experience in both worlds.

you can make a comparison with the stock exchange, when you make a risk application and an application without too much risk, the tournaments you pay to enter with a fixed value and the probability of gain slower if you enter the prize money while cash games are extremely risky you can win up to 300% fast but you can lose everything in just a few minutes.
