I have a big problem which is starting to take a toll on me now!
Whenever i go deep in tourney and i am on sb and bb or late pos and somebody raises i feel that they are raising to steal with very weak range!
So i end up shoving my stack.
Recently i shived 83o over 5 limps in tourney and a player called me with Ajo!
A player raised from btn i shoved with 6js thinking he would fold but he had AK and i busted 2 places away from money
I play very badly in tournament as opposed to cash!
I read hands more food in cash but tourneys its all abouy shove shove!
And if i am multitabling and loose on 1 table i become tilted!

You have to keep track of what the villain is doing. is he alway trying to steal your blinds? if so then at some point you have to take a no more stance. the best thing you can have is notes and tracking software, this will help tell you what he is likely doing. if you know what he has done in the past it helps make your decision. late in a tourney things do change tho, sometimes its just a gut feeling and sometimes you are totally wrong. good luck in your next tourney

It might help to take notes in the poker client or HUD if a player exhibits a specific tendency. If people are playing too aggressively, tighten up and wait for stronger hands and better spots. In general try to play the opposite style of how your opponents are playing.

Shoving over 5 limping players, are they all weak? Nothing wrong with getting aggressive around the bubble, but common, with in reason. If you are getting tired try SnG or smaller fields. Nothing bothers me worse, playing a good tournament and getting railed so late because my mind is tired. Rather not play and get those 5 or 6 hours back.

Nothing wrong with bread and butter being at the cash table. Mixing in some SnG might get you back on track.

A simple solution is: if you're that deep in the tournament, what does it matter if they steal?

It's an extreme solution, for sure, but being stolen from when you're deep is better than busting because you've been tilted. No matter what situation you're in, you cannot defend against 5 people with 83o.

You need to work on mindfulness and being happy with folding bad hands, especially in spots where you're far from being blinded out.

If you get tilted easily, check out the Mental Game of Poker by Jared Tendler. It goes deep in depth on how to control tilt and other concepts like fear, motivation, confidence, etc.

I'd also recommend part 2 as well which deals more with flow state and playing in the zone.

Do you use a HUD to see if the stats show that villain is stealing from that position. Even without stats, is sounds like you should look at the right ranges for shoving against that position. As played, 83o is probably never a shove with 5 limps. It would be interesting to see the math behind it given stake sizes I guess.

Hey
In my opinion you yourself are to be blamed for playing like that.

What made you reach deep in a tourney will carry you thru.

If your opponent is aggresive thats fine, you play your cards right and beat him down.

Thanks

Sometimes those moves work until they don't and your tournament is over. Have to wait for a better spot.

Now many poker players are playing very aggressively !!! This was facilitated by many books and articles which say that aggressive play is more profitable !!! but for some reason readers did not understand this style of game correctly !!! (tight) -here is the keyword !!! Tight-aggressive style of the game is considered the most profitable, but the key word here is “tight”, you have to play “tight” but aggressively play good hands and many players instead of playing tight for some reason play inadequately trying to play marginal and even weak hands aggressively just because they read in some article that they have to play aggressively !!! It is definitely necessary to play aggressively but only with a good hand !!!

I found that in tournaments, especially in the later rounds patience plays a major role. Learning when not to push against players when you have a weak hand can be difficult after a few hours because of fatigue, this is when patience comes into play and you have to wait for or chance regardless of how badly you want to take out that aggressive player.

Never shove a weak hand even if you think they are bluffing. It just doesn't worth it on the off chance of they calling.

Your logic can go the other way that they think you went all in to protect your BB which is why they would call.

Hi.
I often met a lot of similar players and I was always helped by my patience. I believe that patience is the main advantage of successful players.
Good luck.

I would say that it is better to study the training materials more so that you can then play freely in different tournaments or cash games, and in future games you will have a lot of experience in playing the game aggressively and passively, there are many players in the game who are just pushing a bad card and such moments need to catch such players and raise the stack and win, good luck with your games!

We've all been the bubble boy. Sometimes you have to choose between aggression and getting to the money, a choice you don't need to make in a cash game.

at the end of the game the game is more tight and your opponents usually have a good level of play. so better play more tight and in position. but above all you have to respect the raises of other players and wait for the right spot.

You should analyze the game of every player individually and decide if they steal or not. General approach in such case is big mistake. Good player will notice what you are doing, wait for good cards and use your strategy against you.

Set your own starting hand chart for a start.
for example
your hand is QQ//KK//AA//AQs+
- preflop play w stack over 50bb
- preflop play w stack over 20bb
- preflop play w stack under 10bb

your hand is 99//TT/JJ/KQo

- preflop play w stack over 50bb
- preflop play w stack over 20bb
- preflop play w stack under 10bb

your hand is...

When you do this, do it again for 3 types of positions at the table.. Early//Middle//Late

and...

Do it again for 3 types of situations: Limps infront of you///Bets infront of you///No preflop action infront of you.

and...

Do it again for 4 stages of tournament: Early/Middle/Bubble/InTheMoney

and...

follow your chart, but adjust it a little depending on the info you're getting from opponents.

Don't step away for away from your chart for start.

! Going all-in pre-flop with stack over 50bb is always a stupid decision, even with pocket aces and bet-3bet infront of you.
!! Going all-in in late position with trash hand vs opponent who bets is always a stupid decision.
!!! MTTs are not about chips and big stacks... MTT is a time tournament, pay attention to yesterdays game and make notes for todays and future games.
For example:
You've checked yesterdays tourney... the one you're going to play today, and you've noticed that 1500 player MTT lasts 9hours, Final table lasts 1.5 hours. Money time is 4.5 hours after the start.
SO your primary goal is to survive during 4.5hours to be in the money, to have some profit... You might be a stupid chipleader during first 2 hours and lose all of your chips during 3rd hour, or you can be the shortest stack at the table during first 5 hours and enter the money by just sitting tight. What do you want? Big ups-n-downs or to win the money?

It happened to me too many times: 450 places paid, I'm in the money, 440 players left and my place is 420... and... several hours later I'm at the final table.

Personally I don't pay attention to the reason why player infront of me at SB raises my BB. If I have a trash hand I simply fold it, nomatter what. But I make such decision because I'm doing my job together with poker sessions, and I simply play pre-flop according to the hand chart that I have on my mind. Yes or No and i keep working...

Playing mind games in online poker, like "He's bluffing my Big Blind" is such a BS... Your reads and tells are pixels at your screen, keep in mind that everything you see in online poker is just pixels at your monitor! You can't see real people, can't see their moves, can't 100% trust this version of the real game, because it's not happening in reality, it's pixels at your screen and data from casinos data center, take it real and don't take it too seriously. And you better do something that generates profit while you're playing poker, cause if you're taking poker as a single source of income then you're washing your life down in toilet seat, doesn't matter if you'll be winning or losing.
