I've noticed that more players tend to late-reg than to start from the beginning.I do to sometimes, but when do you think is too late to late-reg?
30 BB? 20 BB? 10 BB?!?!?!
Just seems crazy to me that people choose to late-reg right before its up,
and have like 2 BB to start, and just shove.
What's your thoughts?

I belive anything lower than 10bb it's too late to late reg. 10bb offers you everything you need to have a good faster tournament.
You won't play for 2 hours to get to that point, and in just a few hands you can make s bigger stack or just bust and not have the feeling for wasting hours dor nothing.

In some tournaments, late registration does not end long before the moment the game approaches the bubble. Sometimes (very rarely), you can not participate at all in the game - you will have enough chips to get into money. More often - you just need to double once. In this case, you get money in just a few minutes of the game and with minimal risk.

However, keep in mind that in tournaments with reward for bounty out (knockouts) this tactic is completely unsuitable - by entering late registration you will probably be the shortest stack at the table and a big target with the inscription "victim" appears on your forehead.

Always carefully study the structure of the tournament, sometimes you need to look at how similar structured tournaments are played. Be sure to consider the availability of rebuys and addons! For the tournament player, there are a lot of tricks that are not familiar to players in the cache. ;)

Good luck at the tables!

In tournaments with a smooth structure of the blinds, I usually register somewhere after an hour from the start to save time, and turbo tournaments have to be played from the very beginning, I think so.

Depends on the structure deepstack tourney I would enter late, turbo I think from the start, bounty I could enter late depends on the starting stack and blinds would determine how late I enter.

I don't generally late reg a whole lot. However, for a slow structured / deepstack tournament I don't mind a late registration with 20-30BB. For turbo I don't think you should late reg with <25BB.

I've registered last min a few times and managed to double up couple times and do well. Typically I don't like to reg more than hr after start but acr has some ridiculous late registrations and I hate being short stacked and seeing hrs of late registration left. Lol. Always think I could of just waited and register now and have more chips. If I don't have hours to play ill look for something near end of late reg and take a shot

I like playing from the beginning becouse mtt format attracts a lot of rec fun players and every time there is got to be at least 2-3 players who will play stuff like K4o and pay you off on all 3 streets if they hit K.Also in turbo structure i think its not smart to registar very late, cos with 20-10bb stack you are in push fold mode and if dont get premium cards blinds will eat you you will also lose fold equity...Even if you get AK,TT or something like that you have to flip just to stay alive..Even if you win that flip and dobule up,its turbo structre you still dont have a lot of space to play post flop and in another 20min you will again have to flip just to stay alive.Yeah same thing can happen even if you start from beginng but from beginng you can also make a big stack and this way you cant (only if you get ultra lucky lol).

Some players are ready to flip with any 2 cards and late register or most likely reregister very late repeatedly. Personally I don’t like to flip for buy ins over and over as it’s not cost effective. Some tournaments barely cover the buy in with a min cash and late registering often will result in not having many blinds so you are forced to gamble and often min cash. Even if you win the first 1 or 2 flips eventually the odds catch you. Multiple buy ins could be costly at the late stage if your not running well . I would much prefer 20 bigs or more preferably. Sometimes it’s better to move on.

I almost always register on time unless there happens to be a huge overlay then I might take a shot if I would have 30+ BB. I use the same criteria for reentry tournaments. If I feel like I have an advantage over the field I might go down to 20BB+.

After playing the 10k $5.50 on BCP for 5 hours and being 1k above starting stack, I was thinking I could of just registered now and been at the same place LOL

Im slack, 20bb Im good to go but 50bb is more ideal, i like being able to play a hand or 2 before I go into shove mode

I think it's better to start from the beginning. If you choose a conservative game, you can for the time that someone missed, fill a good stack.

Personally i like to play from the start since it allows me to accumulate chips before the late-regs get in. There is a lot of chips to be made of them whenever they have to flip for the double up.

Its not same in every tournament, but everyting below 20 BB i would not late reg because you immidiately get low stack so if tournament is fast you are forced to shove in first 10 hands

I generally prefer not to late reg.But when I do it, I want to have at least 30bbs. I don't want to be involved in push/fold situation from the beginning until I have learned the table and players

My personal belief is that you will make more money by registering early if you have an edge because there are more fish at the start and you get more time to outplay your opponents with more complex postflop plays. However, I do think that it is certainly possible to have enough of an edge to beat the rake at pretty much any starting stack, and I think it’s generally alright to register at any stage if you want. The main exception to this is bounty tournaments, because if you register really late then you’ll be covered by most people and won’t be able to take their bounty.

From ROI point of view it's best to register before the start.
From $/hr point of view it may well be best to register late.

Depends On A Lot.

It depends on the buy in if it is a $2.20 tourney and I have $400 on my account I will get in super late and try to stack up. It also depends if it is a turbo or 15 minute blinds. Turbos I would want at least 10bbs. If it has longer levels say 12plus minutes I will join with 8bbs sometimes less depending on the buy in. If it is 5% of your bankroll i would try to get in with 15bbs though.

That really depends on the tournament, and how long can people late reg. If there is like 5hours(late reg) its better to sign up later than immediately when tournament start. Because after a hour or two you will notice you will have the same stack as a new signed up buddy to the tourney, but its not always like that. Usually i only late reg to slow tournaments with low buy-in and trying to stack up. But everything depends on your bankroll and on your own strategy :)

everything depends on how many BB you feel comfortable, I have some friends who like to enter the last minute because they like to apply push or fold, I think 10bb is too late, but as I say it depends on each player and the strategies you want to apply

Yes, I noticed this. I think 20 BB is not too late if push-fold goes well. Under 10 BB, it is only freerolls that make sense.
2 BB many people are registered, up to 50 in freerolls!

I do not even understand this :)

I normally register on time only if I am not doing anything. but sometimes the wife and I run out to do shopping quickly if we need food so then I register late. some times the hours I work I get home late so if registration is open I can then register I don't do it cause I cant make the start time at times

Anything below 30bb you're just wasting your money in my opinion...

20-30 BB is enough for me. I like late registering as you are closer to in the money. Play early is very splashy and it plays more like a cash game because it is super deep I am a tournament player so the cash players have an edge over me earlier in tournaments.
