I have a question for everyone. When are you too tired to be playing poker. I guess when are you too tired to play with your real money.

Of course, if you feel too tired to play poker you shouldn't be playing. Take a break.

There are several things I like to make sure of when playing...

Be alert (not tired, distracted, etc)
Have time (don't start a tourney an hour before you have to go out)
Stop if tilting (even if you have played well, you may have been outplayed or sucked out on)

There are loads more things to think about I am sure, but for me those 3 help out loads :)

i should take your advice.. im always tired when i play... i have a 70+ hour a week job and still find time to play around 1000 sng a month. aiming for 1500 this month and havnt played one yet.. but yeah, it would definately have to hurt your bottom line.. i remember a few times this month where i could barely keep my eyes open when playing.. when that happens i finish my set and go to bed, or go do something else..

I do not suggest playing when you are too tired, you have a tendency to make more mistakes and missread the board. like thinking that your top pair or two pair are good when there is a flush or straight draw from the flop. Take a break and get some sleep and approach it when you can focus on the game you are playing.

I do not think people interpreted the question properly.

I don't think anyone can answer this question for you. It's completely situational based on your life outside cards. Here's my example I'll show to you:

I work a retail job and oftentimes have my shifts extended longer, sometimes to doubles. I was asked to leave work one day then do an overnight after working 5 hours already and the overnight was a full shift. Futhermore I have a 1 month old little girl. All of this adds up to little sleep. Just to kick it up one more notch I like to have a few beers every night. I don't go get loaded all the time or anything so don't misread.
All of this is stuff I take into account before I play. I'm not a great player, not even a winning player. At least, however, I try hard to do the good things a good player should do and one of those is not to play tired or intoxicated. When I'm too tired is when I've worked a long day, my daughter is all pissed off and screaming after I get home and I've had a drink or two.
Now that I've told you what it's like for me, you have to look at your life and see what it is for you. When are you feeling exhausted? What's your work like? Is it labor intensive or mentally straining? Do you do a lot of math at work to the point where you come home and don't feel like doing math for the game? Do you have a little kid?
As you see what I'm saying is there's a lot of play in a question so general. I know my limit and I realize you're trying to learn yours. Hopefully you'll be able to look objectively at your life and figure that out for yourself.

My final thoughts are twofold:
When do you sit down to play and think "I'm freaking exhausted, I'll just play a few hands and go to bed" or something of the sort.
The other is a definite answer. Do you ever come to cardschat and see this banner at the top?
Hello Uribam it appears that you have not posted on our forums in several weeks, why not take a few moments to ask a question, help provide a solution or just engage in a conversation with another member in any one of our forums?
If so you've been too tired to play for awhile.

Scott

Edit for being too tired to spell think correctly.

I have the problem of living in the UK and playing on Full Tilt - the Daily Dollar starts at 1am, so if I have a deep run I can be up til 5/6am easily. A friend made the mistake of playing the Superstack which started at 10 or 11pm; when he went out at 6.30am he had only just cashed.

:(

im too tired to play kinda everyday, but still I think its fun and I do it .

Worst combo for me is, heavy day at work, then during evening, start laptop, and stay on the bed while playing poker. My eyes close and I fold everyone :p

I think 3-4 hours of play is when you a personally usually gets tired from looking at the computer screen for so long. Personally, I'd advice to get an caffeinated drink or don't play in a tournament if you do not feel like you have the energy to play the whole tournament if you get deep in it.

Thanks for all the advice! I was asking because, it's hard to know when you start a tournament how long it will take. While I might feel fine when I start, it can drag on, and then I get tired, and start getting too aggressive, and I am no where near the end of the tournament.

If you can't decide between a fold and a call-fold.
If you can't decide between a raise and a call-raise.
If you can't decide between going to bed or playing-go to bed.

IMO you're too tired to play when you're making bad decisions and losing in a game you should otherwise be winning in. There are games where you can play tired and still profit.

I appreciate this question. And I love lektrikguys answer..lol

And Uribams thought make a lot of sense to me. I also have a family, a young daughter, and when it is finally calm enough to play, I have to decide between playing tired or going to bed. Its gonna be different for each individual, but I drink coffee and tea, use breaks for a short walk, fresh air helps a lot. I relate also to WizziMs post. I have actually woken up to see I was blinded out, that is a possible sign of being too tired to play.......

And take it from someone who had tested this one much too often: DONT DRINK ALCOHOL AND PLAY; NO MATTER HOW GOOD THE IDEA SEEMS:::::
Wish I had a PC that would shut down if it detects the smell of booze....lol

I think there's only one question you have to ask yourself. Is it +EV to stay awake or is it +EV to go to sleep.
