What are you all on about? seriously... in the long term, playing against fish is a LOT better, than playing against solid players... Variance should be less, as you will have a much better ITM %. If you struggle against fish, your probably not adjusting quick enough, not taking notes etc. Or you yourself, may be playing badly, (too loose early, too tight late etc.)
Sure the solid players are likely to be tight early, and playing a solid game, which means they are explioitable. But when it comes to crunch time, on or near the bubble, they simply wont make as many mistakes as a fish will..(fish give you walks BVB, good players dont, fish get it in vs each other on the bubble, good players try not too) It might be a little differant in a non turbo, but in either, i prefer playing against horrible players.. surely It's a lot better for ROI in the long term. I do sort of get why people want to play against better players, they are easier to read and what not, but it doesnt make up for the fact that these players get it in bad a lot of the time.
And another thing, playing standard ABC can be a good thing, it will allow you to mass multitable, which has obvious benefits... anyways,
One last thing that i don't think has been mentioned is the sample size, or amount of games you have played at that level. It's possible that you played ok, but got outdrawn a lot. It's common to have spells like this for 500 games, but the flipside is, if you play well, and keep getting your Money in ahead, you will have a spell of 500 games where you make a killing.
