At times when playing late in a tourney everyone's stacks are shallow and you've got a 20BB stack which is twice the average. I find it very hard to play because compared to other players I'm deep, but a 20BB stack in general is considered a shortstack which makes me confused on what my playing style should be, what hands should I open and what hands should I call off shoves with, when can I shove and ect.

get a bit more specifc...
like;

-Has the bubble burst yet?

-What are some of the individual and table dynamics?

I understand you're looking for specific answers to a general question, but come on, can you offer advice on such a general question?

However, 2 things I might suggest are 1) Position, and 2) first in vigorish (http://www.pokerstrategy.com/glossary/First-in-vigorish/)

Of the 2, position might be more defensive, which I guess means that FIV is more offensive.....:confused:

Conventional wisdom might suggest you have a bully pulpit, but at only 20 bb, I wouldn't play that card. Save than when you have more than half the chips in play (purely my opinion). With 20 bb's, even a 3 bb hit by the shortie you forced to shove, will effect the dynamics.

At 20 bb (table leader or not) late in a tourney, you are still looking for another double up. Continue on with the patience that got you that far, until your are bigger than 2x average (like maybe 5x).

Then refine. at least, those 2 example up top of this post to get better suggestions.

Is this a turbo tourney? I dont find it low stacked until I have less than 10bb. Do you make the money in this tournament? What are your finishes?

Yes, this does happen only when I make it itm. I haven't finished big in any tourney yet, usually this phase is the one which stops me and I commit most mistakes in. No, I'm not talking about turbo tourneys, just the regular ones.

So what you guys saying is that my stack size is the most important factor and that for the most part the average shouldn't matter and I should be going by philosophy that if I'm 20BB- deep I should be acting like a shortstack?

as a turbo player, 20bb is a big stack and you shouldnt be doing crazy things, be aggro to steal the pots, but fold to big shoves if you don't have a good hand.

Short is 10bb... 15bb is when you want to make some crazy moves, like a bunch of limpers behind you shove on them to get a few bbs

To the OP...practice playing sit and gos and you will become more comfortable playing short stacked. Who knows, you might learn a thing or two. :tee:

I believe that having 20 blinds, you should not change the styles of play, I see no danger, I think that the stack allows you to play without problems

Dont call hands unless youre trapping a specific aggressive opponent i would reshove rather wide vs LP raisers and i would shove the BTN and SB quite wide too!
