i play 9 handed sng and i find that i play very tight early on (which you should do) and wait for top notch hands and play them aggressively. I find that when blinds are 50-100 my stack is about 1100 and there are still 7 -8 players at a table. it's a full tilt poker sng so blinds go up:
20/40
25/50
30/60
40/80
50/100

Is it me or has everyone gotten much better at sng recently because i get around 700 chips at blinds at 60/120 and have to push all in on the button with K7s and find that i get called with A7 against another shortish stack and lose :(. This may sound stupid but if there is any decent winner who play sng on ft but your id down so i can watch you play and see if i'm making any mistakes. I just feel like i'm playing all wrong and i'm losing belief. SOS lol not quite yet.

good luck at the tables everywho reads this.

Have you posted any hands in the HA forum where you have difficult decisions to make? Have you reviewed the HA forum to see if you find any tough spots similar to yours? Have you looked to see if there is anyone that will review your hand histories? Have you read Moshman's book?

Ship it in when you have 1100 and blinds 50/100.

I'm not a SNG expert at all.... just play micros but have an idea of how to play them. If you want, you could pm me.. hook up on Skype & I'll do live commentary while playing a couple (do you play regs. or turbos?).

Everyone has short (ish) stacks in SNG's. I don't see the need to get crazy at the 50/100 blinds yet if you've been having trouble catching a nice situation before this point and still have 1100 chips in your stack. You still have a couple more levels and orbits before you are really in a spot where you need to risk all of your chips with a shove without putting yourself in a position where you are getting called by any 2 cards when you decide to push.

its a natural thing, that players will be getting better. 4 years ago, when i was playing sng they were the easiest form of poker out there.. no one had a clue about ICM and shove/fold play, i was playing up to 27's and dominating.. now. even the 3.40 games have regs, they arnt great regs.. but still "ok".

so yes, players are getting better. but its not like the games are unbeatable.. even the 16's at stars which are infested with regs are beatable, as long as you practice good table selection. like not loading up games when the lobby looks like 333332222111111111

so instead of havbing big edges at games, our edge is a llittle bit lower. i like it personally, i quit the sng as i found them boring. but recently started playing them again, due to a time factor with work.. now your forced a bit more to push your small edges over opponants..

WiZZim,

Question? Could you explain the table selection you're talking about. Why be careful when the lobby looks like 333332222111111? To many regulars multi-tabling? Player collusion?

So avoid deciding to play a SNG when the game/stakes you were planing to play and the lobby looks like you stated? Wait until the games fill up.

Sorry about the questions. Just didn't understand the reasoning.

^^ just means there are probably some regs sitting in queue. More regs at your table = less $EV for us. Rather, we want to play SNG's with the fish, where we can maximize our $EV.

I play low stakes sng's buyin for 10+1 20+2 9 seater STT non turbos. I find that turbos are pretty much a donkfest, specially during the later levels. You always want to play according to your M and definitely play position and only premium hands very aggressive. If you can double up early on you are almost guaranteed to make itm or end up taking it down, If you want to watch pm me and I will walk you through a STT while I play.

Cjtad(i cant spell :D) answered this. but yes, too man regs.. at lower stakes like 6.50 and below im not really concerned with the regs.. they are all usually pretty bad. some are good though.. no player collusion im not worried about. but if the lobby looks packed with regs.. its usualyl better to just wait a few minutes, then load your games.. as he said. your looking at a better ROI this way.

ugh.. i really dont like the use of "M" in sng play. it doesnt really help much, as early stage were looking to survive and maintain our stack.. later on, were using mostly ICM to make our decisions.. so i feel that this is bad advice.. oh and also i disagree with the turbos being a "donkfest" there are better players at the turbo levels than non turbo.. and no, your not guaranteed anything in a sng, there are times where you play perfect and you bubble..

but a very good sng player once told me if your not bubbling a fiar bit. your doing something wrong..

What exactly does that mean?
I do not play sng's regularly but am starting to entertain them.

This.. if you can imagine like 12 tables like this open after you use the table filter. and they have 2-3 people on each table. if you look through they will be all regs.. so instead of loading up games now.. wait like 10 mintues and load them up when the lobby clears a bit.. if you dont. your killing your ROI.. this gets more and more important the higher you go up in stakes.. espesically the turbos.. the 16's on stars are proabably the most infested with regs in the low to mid stakes buy in.. this is due to the rake being so good.. 15+1 instead of Full tilts 10+1

Yea - you are definitely only folding or shoving at this point - in position unless your stack gets too low.

You absolutely need to be looking for shove spots and not waiting a couple more levels. Of course it is not atc from any position but particularly in the small blind your range will already be very wide. And with each level your range will get wider in all positions. You don't want to find yourself with 800-900 chips when the blinds hit 100/200.

Agree about the M in sng's.

And thanks for making me feel better about all those bubbles lol.

You are just unlucky my friend. In a game of poker, you need to be strategic when playing. The best strategy is bluffing.

We are talking about 9 handed sng's here and bluffing would be the best strategy in very rare situations.

get used to much worse beats than taht.. if you play sng, you will see it all..

im pretty much numb to the 60/40's 80/20's and 95/5's ive seen it all happen so i dont really feel anything when i outdraw someone or if someone puts a beat on me..
