Near the bubble in the carbon poker first depositor freeroll, but I was not in the money if I didn't move up in the chips rankings.

I have about 3,600 chips left (not including the blinds). 300/600 blinds, no antes. I was sb.

MP open shoves with about 780. Everyone folds to me.

I have 8c4c.

bb has 13,000 left but has been very conservative, rarely playing a hand, just sitting on his chips.

So I was looking putting in about 480 more chips to win the 1680 already in the pot.

I am pretty confident if I shoved, he'd fold. So I shoved it. He instafolded.

MP had AKos so he had me 2:1. But I outflopped him with a 4 to win. Then these 2 guys started ripping me for being stupid. I thought about talking about pot odds but decided against it and just said "ok I got lucky."

What do you think? I thought that was a pretty good calculated risk.

Yes if bb called i would have been in trouble, but I was 90% confident he'd fold.

----

Edit I made it into the money!

I am pretty proud of my play tonight. I was down to 700 and change early on after the guy hits a 4 out gutshot straight to beat my 2 pairs. But I rallied back to make it into the final 20.

One of the guys ripping me got busted on #21, 10 vs. KJ and he started railing on the guy who called his 2.2 bb shove LOL. Made it all the more sweet.

Ended up finishing 6th and winning $25 for the 2nd straight tourney. Very happy with the way I played tonight. Thinking back, there's nothing I could have done differently.

I keep making typos. The final paragraph in the opening post should say one of the guys ripping me busted out at #21. Top 20 get paid.

I will be back for more tomorrow night. Carbon is really awesome so far.

I agree with your thinking here, and if you had enough read to think BB was gonna fold (which he did, good read) then a good play. An open shove from such a SS, I would have been inclined to go for him as well. AS far as even commenting on the guys ripping you, I wouldnt even try to explain anything. I encounter "poker teachers" all the time (I note them as such...lol) and ignore them, although they usually are "teaching" someone else lately, as I am so darn nitty lately that I am hard pressed to play anything...lol. But I dont waste my time responding to any negative comments at all, unless it is from an obviously weak player, then I will egg him on to try to get him tilted at me, sometimes works, and even sometimes backfires lol, but is a +ev move for the most part. But as I said, unless Im giving a "nh" or "wp" or whatever, or the ocasional chat to a nice player, I just keep my mouth shut and play.

If Frank Zappa had been a poker player he might have called that album "shut up an play your hand" lol

Not stupid but good play given your reasoning about BB and your stack.

It is interesting to note that had the BB called with Ax or Kx you are not necessarily in such awful shape - eg if BB calls with KQo you have about 35% equity to BB's 20%. The most likely outcome is that the SS will triple up and you will double the remainder of your stack (about 2800) from BB.

IMO A good play (even if it hadn't worked) you needed to get some chips, move up in the standings and it seems your read was spot on.

Although 84 suited is obviously a bad move. You played smart because you used your own image vs. the bigger stack. You also had a small stack so you couldn't wait around forever, and even if you lost you still would have been in the tournament. You also made a good mathematical decision because any random two cards has a better chance than a weaker ace. Good job and good luck on your future tournaments.

I made it to the final table again tonight, but I think I made a mistake on the final hand.

Blinds were up to 2000/4000. I was on BB with about 18,000 left (not counting the 4,000 I put in the pot). SB open min. raises. I have K2 os. I should fold here. But the guy (chip leader) has been raising my blinds more often than not, so I decided to push back since he would be raising with Q10 type of hands.

He had K10. And I finished 7th. 6th, 6th, 7th finishes in 3 straight tourneys, but I feel a little disappointed today cuz I was 2nd in chips going into the final table. I just didn't get any hands I could call shoves with. Chips dwindled down and I made a stand with a mediocre hand.

I should have waited for a better spot. If I folded I still had 4+ BBs remaining and still in 5th with chips.

Don't be so hard on yourself with that last hand, blueskies. If you are down to 5bb you are already drinking in the last chance saloon. We can assume the SB is raising with ATC and they might fold to your raise - though we can also assume they will call as the odds are good for them. By reraising you are accepting a probable coin flip. As it happened they had the worst hand for you as you are dominated, but that's how it goes. K2 is ahead of QT.

With such a short stack and a short table you are soon going to face a coinflip for your tourney life anyway - better to raise to 22k to a loose player than be forced to call all-in with J9o with 14k.

That is unfortunate, because you had such a big stack. Something like that happened to me. It was the top 30 or so, and it was folded around to the small blind. His stack was like 3-4 times bigger than mines, and he quickly pushed all in. I had King-8 and felt like he was bluffing. Called time, and called because I went with my guy feeling. Guy had J-4, but he hit a Jack and I got knocked out. Situations like this, even though you lose, I think is a great way to see how well you read in tough situations and can only help you in the long run. Good luck winning in the future. You'll do fine.

If you were confident he would fold i would say it was the right play. But on the other hand it was risky being you were close to the money. I would have probably played the hand the same as you did.

This was a verry hard spot to play and he had a better kicker.

I think that if u want to win the tournament u have to risk a little. But also i think that if you want to get more money you had to w8 for a better spot. There are a lot of money involved at the final tables and every place that u go up is a huge difference in cash.
But there is always another chance.

Yes, K2 isn't normally what I wanna make a stand with. The guy had been throwing his big stack around so I was just hoping he was raising with mediocre stuff.

But best case scenario for me was being only a small fav. and I could have been dominated. Should have folded.

I was also frustrated with having only gotten 1 playable hand at the final table and just folding my blinds away.

Could not cash in 4 in a row. Lost out at 55th today.

Now I've lost 3 tourneys in a row without cashing. Went out 19 players away from the cash, AQ vs. KQ. The big stacker calls me and hits a K on the turn. I lost 3/4 my stack earlier when my AsKs ran into his AA.

The guy had my number.

1 more shot to cash in at the Carbon initial deposit freeroll.
