I am going to start having tournaments at my home , two tables 20 players. I would like to reach final table(6) around the 4 to 5th hour of play. What would be the best chip count to begin with, blinds to with and times between each blind. Thanks

Do you already own chips? If so, how much do you have of each denomination? I'd highly recommend having custom chips, because unless you're just playing with your best buddies, the common wal-mart type chips will eventually be brought in by a cheater and their stack padded. Especially if you plan on doing the tournament often, and use the same generic chips each time.

I would say start at around 50 big blinds and run 20 minute levels, that is what we usually play around with, somewhere in that range.

The general rule is the tournament will be completed within a couple of levels (plus or minus) of when the blinds reach the amount of the starting stack.

So if you start with a $10k stack then have it worked out so the BB has escalated to $10k by sometime in the 4th hour.

Substitute that $10k for any number and it all works out the same (in case you do not have and cannot afford to acquire $200k in chips for 20 people).

But the bigger stack you can give them to start the better the illusion of playing a deep stack - when in reality you could start them with $1k and still have it work out the same.

Don't forget to include breaks when working out the structure.

The following blind schedule is for a tournament with 20 people, set to last 4 hours with 20-minute rounds. Each player will begin with 5000 chips and the small and big blinds will start at 25/50. Breaks are not included. Put them where you want for as long as you want. 10 minutes should be more than enough.

1. [+0:00] -- 25 / 50
2. [+0:20] -- 50 / 100
3. [+0:40] -- 75 / 150
4. [+1:00] -- 100 / 200
5. [+1:20] -- 125 / 250
6. [+1:40] -- 200 / 400
7. [+2:00] -- 300 / 600
8. [+2:20] -- 500 / 1000
9. [+2:40] -- 700 / 1400
10. [+3:00] -- 1000 / 2000
11. [+3:20] -- 1500 / 3000
12. [+3:40] -- 3000 / 6000
13. [+4:00] -- 4000 / 8000
14. [+4:20] -- 6000 / 12000
15. [+4:40] -- 10000 / 20000
16. [+5:00] -- 15000 / 30000
