i agree to stall to get in the money if your a shallow stack but what is the point of a big stack tanking every hand to min cash ? i dont get it ,if it was me id be applying alot of pressure with a big stack pretty much playing any 2 unless theres an all in then i would have to consider who went all in and there tendencies but i been playing this $22 mtt on Acr Tonight and people just tanking left and right with monster stacks its crazy

They are either beginners that don't know better or have a poor internet connection.

Yeah could be the connection, sometimes even after I press something, the timer goes all the way to 0 before the event happens, not very often though.

I think that always those who have enough stack like to press a lot, the players have different strategies and ways of playing

The reason is, that they had big stacks before, playing all game pretty well, and lost it fast playing, while ALL THE OTHER TABLES play slow.:bandit:

I also do it, I'm just afraid that I will not have enough chips. I'm such a coward, after constant losers, I'm just beginning to be afraid.

I don't know about ACR but a couple of years back, i had a pretty low stack and i wanted to get ITM at poker stars tourney. Well a couple of hours after tournament was finished i received an email from PS informing me that i will be banned if i keep on with the same strategy...I was shocked to be honest since i' ve never heard before that someone was banned from a poker site just because of stalling.
Players low on chips will always do that in bubble situation but having a big fat stack and taking every second given to make a decision is weird i must say

I use to use this strategy when I first started playing, or when I got a bad beat right towards the bubble. I have enough in my bankroll to manage not making the money and try to go further.
When trying to build from zero it is harder to get momentum at times. At the small stakes the rewards are small of course, but when you try to challenge yourself to build it up you have to start somewhere.

If the big stack is just going all in every hand and everyone folds I will slow it down. Usually he/she will either stop going all in or start cussing me in the chat, then everyone will see what is going on and slow him down too. Hurts when the blinds are going up when playing slow.

Could also be that they are multi tabling and takes a bit of time switching back and forth.

We may or may not agree with the tactic of stalling, but each player is allotted a certain amount of time to make a decision, and unless otherwise specified by the site or terms and conditions, players can use this time any way they want. If sites really wanted to stop players from stalling, they'd make the allotted time and time banks shorter.

Big stacks stalling to get in the money is absurd. They should be exploiting the min stacks on the bubble to gain an edge and more chips. Aggressive play on the bubble reaps big rewards. Read a story about the late online legend lilholdem 954 that he was crushing everyone on the bubble and literally increased his stack so much so that when he was dealt aces he folded to a min stack shove in the B.B. because he would rather win more pots with aggression they bust the bubble. He could’ve won the pot but figured he would make more by folding and continuing to punish the table for as long as possible. Next level thinking at its finest.

I've done it. Usually as a result of other players slowing down or table imbalance. Depends on payout amount or number of payouts if I do it today.

I don't like stalling, but I will do it if everyone else at the table is doing it just out of spite and then at times I will just sit out til the stalling is done.

I will do it if I can see another table is doing it. If there are 2or 3 tables left for example and I have them open. Ill slow down until I see movement on those tables.

When I started playing TH a few years ago, I wondered if it was good etiquette to stall to cash in a tourney, seemed to be in my benefit, and I would think, gee, it's my timer... But I initially read it's not considered etiquette.

However in the last 2 years, I have come to the conclusion, if time can be used in a way? and time (timer) is part OF the game? Then I'm going to use it. I realize it can slow the table down, but if it means me cashing vs not cashing? I mean, I think one should do everything they can that's legal in the game to cash - and who knows, maybe even win it !

I have always been of the opinion that the more hands you see the better your chances of success . So I never slow play no matter the situation . I believe it is counter productive . But I don't criticize anyone who chooses to play that way . The time allotted is everyone's to use as they see fit . Good luck with whatever way you choose to play .

Using Occam's razor I like the multi-tabling answer.

Because even if it is not intentional it is a mistake not to boss the table with a giant stack -approaching the money and pressuring short stacks. Maybe they have more money on other tables - who knows?

And yes look at other tables in your MTT and you will see other players using their timeclocks.

But the other thing that is going on here is slowing the game down and denying shortstacks more hands at cheaper blinds and antes.

So it can inject an feeling of frustration in the short stack, who is eagerly looking for a spot to get it in good and scoop a pot.

Good luck !

I was middle stack so it was not affecting me it was just frustrating watching these same monster stacks continuously tanking every hand until the bubble cracked so it was clear to me the reason behind the tanking but I never tank unless I’m short and near the bubble if I’m deep stacked I’ll put pressure on the rest I’ll never tank but your criticism and feedback is duality noted I can appreciate the way everyone plays differently so the next time I’m playing an mtt I’ll take into account your feedback thanks guys

Ive gotten caught in so many hands which chop out my big stack right before the final table that I like to practice over sensitive play around the bubble. I understand the idea to big stack bully but one ugly turn and someone desperate will be playing ultra aggressive

Stalling is more prevalent in small stakes and freerolls because people are so much more concerned with a min-cash.

When you get to higher stakes you find it less since more players understand blinding off their chip stack is not going to help them win the tournament - passing on profitable spots is done less.

As for stalling with a big stack - I would never do it, as you mentioned this is a time to use how your opponents are playing against them to pick up chips.

Good luck!

Different reasons for every1 I guess. Maybe they dont want to losee their 35/70 plaice and stone bubble on some wierd draw, or... + maybe internet is bad, maybe multi-tabling. But from strategycal point there is not reason for a big stack to stall. Unless you have like 2bb stacks after you and the next lvel is in 20sec =)
