sorry for the lack of details. Read an article about a guy playing a tournament and he said he switched to "stack building mode." just wondering if there were different ways of playing from stack building maybe he was playing super tight. Any input would be appreciated.

I think you always want to be in "stack building mode"....wait for a premium hand and milk your opponents

waiting for a premium and stacking off isn't stack building mode though.

its more probably playing looser and seeing more flops to outplay people postflop to make more money instead of nitting up to 20bb reshove stack mode.

this, but also looking for profitable spots to 3bet, cold 4bet, and just generally target and exploit, weak/face up ranges

I assume a vague stack building mode definition is figuring your opponents leaks and tells without risking much of your stack then applying what you learn about your opponents play to start building your stack. This will vary pending on your style of play.
