Spin & Go Strategy

Are there other sites besides pokerstars that have games like these?

I have played in Pokerstars and partypoker, the strategy used in this type of poker is that you can not be passive, you have to be aggressive and not be very selective or wait for good cards to play a hand

Jackpot Spin & Go Strategies

Americas Cardroom has these under their Jackpots tab. I've played a few and do have a tip that may or may not be valuable with my limited experience.

  1. When the blinds are low, try to make the players think you play any two cards. Be willing to sacrifice 4 or 5 BBs to get this table image.
  2. Then go back to playing tight.
  3. What seems to happen is the other two players think they need to bet big to push you out of hands and end up playing big pots against each other.
  4. If you're lucky you end up heads up and, although you are behind, you still have a better shot than with all those chips divvied amongst two players.

My second tip isn't a strategy, it's a mindset. When you buy in to a Jackpot or Spin & Go tell yourself you EXPECT to play for 2 buy-ins. Your goal is to win 2 buy-ins. That is your only objective, to double your money. Firstly, if you can solidly convince yourself that your goal is to win 2 buy-ins, then there is no disappointment effecting your gameplay. You play with a clear mind and not with disappointment distracting you. Secondly, this mindset is justifiable. These games take 10-20 minutes at most. If you sat down at a cash game and doubled-up in the first 10-20 minutes you'd be happy as a clam to have done so. Why not look at these games the same way?

Ultimately, there is less skill involved and more luck in these games, but at least if you have the right mindset you won't be completely wasting your time.

I've played these on Betonline, ignition, and ACR. On Betonline, the odds for each buy-in multiplier is displayed, and I calculated the expected value to be 2.78x the buy-in, which isn't too bad rake-wise. This means the break even win percentage is around 36%. I kept a spreadsheet when I played on Betonline and had about 100 games played with a 44% win rate and increased my bankroll by 2.5x. However, 100 games is a really small sample size and I did win a disproportionate amount of 5x buy-in games in comparison to my 2x win rate (maybe I was trying harder). Either way, I moved on from betonline, and have played very little on the spin n gos on Ignition and ACR. I assume the EV for those two sites is comparable and could be profitable for a little above average player. I suggest playing at no more than 3% of your bankroll as there is a lot of variance in these games.
Also, I agree with everything in the article, particularly getting a feel for your opponents early on when it's cheap.

I played for a while but PL Omaha and the spin and go MAX, what I was doing was trying to win chips in the 1st levels, but many times it depends on the players that are at the table, many times there were a lot of maniacs and it was almost impossible to apply some strategy, players usually press a lot, I will read this article very carefully

I have played very few spin and go, they are not easy, you can not expect a good hand to take action, you have to push hard and try to win many chips from the beginning so you can fight a little more

I play on FullTilt, its the same game as PS, where they pay 2 to 1 most of the time and 4 to 1 once in a while. They rarely pay more than that.

I am not good enough to come out ahead in this game, I played over 100 games in the past month and only won 1 in 4.

I do not like to play Spin & Go's, but I think the most important strategy is to be aggressive, and if we play against an very aggressive player, we can play a bit tightly..

I personally play the Spin and Go's on poker stars - simply because I have a deposit of some tit money that is for my entertainment only :)
So the line in the article " players have been drawn in by the appeal of winning a life changing amount of money." is soo Not true for me as I play only 25 cents - $1 buyin !
I like heads up games, and can do well in these games - 2 players are easier to intimidate and so I agree that you need to build as soon as possible in these games . I try to play every hand - preferably with a small raise preflop. You find out if they will play with you or are weak. ( I agree with the article ) yes - it does get to the push or fold a lot - depending on your opponents - hopefully you make them fold !
I disagree with the taking of skill away - you still come up against players who know how to play well.
I agree - it is a jackpot lottery type game - be ready to lose.
So, if you play higher stakes - then be prepared to either play or fold and take your losses . Me I keep it to the low buyins and can sustain losses easier.

I like the spin and go's .

I already played this format a few times and the variance besides being very high, most of the time it pays two to one, so it is not statistically advantageous. However, it has the luck factor that appears rarely and decides everything.

I don't play at all Spins. I've only played with my tickets as a new member of PS and the only thing I remember is that you can't wait for big hands. You have to play aggressively and take risks with a solid amount of preflop shoves. There is a lot of luck at Spins.

I do not like playing this mode, I think the variance is very hard there, but I think the spin is more like playing lottery or bingo, I believe that to be the winner in the spin, you should read against that type of players are playing.
I played a couple of times spin, and I have met with maniacs who go all in constantly, other players are tight, others are good players, you have to know recognize and exploit.

I have played Spin & Go a few times ... and I think that during the first level you can analyze your opponents and then determine a strategy to play against them ... however you can not become very selective with your hands ... you must be aggressive ... if not the blinds end with your chips ...!

I stopped playing it because mostly lost them. Because of bad beats. Not because of skills.

Since I play only on one site I can't compare to the other sites bad beats.

I like to play them, the article deals with a standard strategy, which if all players say this, will have a satisfactory result I believe, and I say more, when you master these kind of tournaments the MTTs become easy for you to reach the final straight.
My strategy is simple:
1 start tournament to play to make nust, only good cards.
2 when you have near the bubble, play aggressively, open the range.
3 when in ITM, play to make chips, be very aggressive.

obs: 10 bb is shove without fear,

Well what's your strategy on scratch tickets? Im assuming spin n go is a sit n go that is turbo? If you want to play poker it;s not in those.

I play Spin&Go every once in a while, but I don't have much success on them, I win at times just not all the time... usual strategy is the way I play on tables. maybe that's why I don't really win that much, because its a different format with a lot of variances...Maybe this Strategy article will boost my spin&go winnings and improve my game on it .

Spin & Go is the most dispersive discipline in poker, it requires a much larger amount of bankroll than regular tournaments.
Personally, I do not really like Spin & Go -very little postflop and a lot depends on luck

  • Spin & Go's are possibly taking away the skill element of the game due to the quick format of the games and how little play there is during each game.
  • Due to the high amount of rake that is charged, recreational players will actually lose their money at a high rate and won't be able to sustain the combination of rake and variance at these games. Which effectively makes these games unbeatable for not only recreational players, but everyone.

That last paragraph keep me away from spin n go for a long time and probably saved me money. But I dont agree with the first paragraph. You have to have good post flop skills, reading abilities, know your betting sizes and exploit your image. Its not just waiting for good hands and shove them when you got them, thats something anyone can do. So skills are a must if you want to thrive in spin n go. Whoever disagree can try playing a higher buyin spin n go, and he will see that he cant win that easy as in lower spin n go, cause skills come in play.

My strategy in spin n go is to play my opponents and play the board. Especially in the lowest buyins, the field is the softest, you have either the crazy donk that will risk all his stack on a pair or just ace high, so trapping and slow playing always works. Then you have the nit, that he calls only when he connects with the board and he will really telegraph you what he have. From time to time you may get a good regular, that plays good poker, mix beting sizes, and mix bluffs with nuts bets, so you have to exploit your image to win that pot that will make the difference.

My tips is betting every flop, nits will fold giving you easy chips, aggrofishes will call and try bad bluffs that you either can easily fold and lose a minimum if you dont have it or take his stack if you have something good.

The other tip is that most players are unbalanced, so everytime they raise preflop the have a good hand, so if you call with suited connectors that flops good you may raise them all day as long as you flop any card and the board doesnt contain figures.
