I have been working really hard on shoring up some leaks I found in my game and wanted to share some thoughts ----here are several areas where I have found I could play more profitably.

1) In tourneys I no longer view the lobby when we are getting close to the
money. I don't want to know there are 5 short stacks and were are 3
away from cashing. I want to play the same style that got me a top 5
chip stack to that point.
2) In position I am trying to go for thin value way more often than I
previously have. This is very dependent on board texture and I
still have a way to go, but I think it will be very profitable change
to my game.
3) I am taking notes from every session and on all players rather than
watching poker videos or NBA games - for the time being I am playing
a maximum of two tables so I can take comprehensive notes on my opponents playing styles and any weaknesses I spot.

You should try hold em manager. I personally don't use it anymore, but it helps if you want to play more tables.

i think it is good to know that you are getting close to bubble. Some bigstacks start playing very wide and aggressive, and you can take advantage of them...

Agree...I think you should adapt your play when you approach the bubble, especially if one is among the chip leaders. So knowing the exact bubble situation is very helpful. One can attack the mid-range stacks with near impunity if you see that they are being ultra-tight waiting for the bubble to burst.

i agree with both Polda and Blue_Fossil. it is important to know where you are in relation to others when the bubble approaches. If you continue normal play oblivious to the bubble you could potentially lose, or miss an opportunity to gain, chips when many players are at their most vulnerable.

ya the bubbles multiple are super important to me with position do I all in against a solid player to steal some pots? Blinds pretty large adding 2-3 or 5k at a time can make a huge difference.

So I def know what is going on. Now you said you dont view the other players and I do not look at their stacks unless im really at the bubble. I have found late in tourneys if I slow it down to raise the blinds this helps at times. I will say a lot of people do not play as well with those bigger blinds and they force things with marginal hands etc...

I think has put many off their games lately for me. Just got to stop getting the bad beats so win the tourneys and not finish 4th:)

Well for me, I tend to slow down when Im in the top 5 and say only 20 spots get paid, but then many times blinds get so high before bubble bursts or we get into higher payouts I end up 5th when I should have won.

The really big change is to try and make thin value bets as often as I can force myself to when IN POSITION on the river - finding I am picking up 10k to 20 k in chips by the late stages of tourney - ex. AJ suitedon button I raise get called by bb flop comes 10 5 5 I continuation bet he calls - turn K he cks I ck bk river J
I bet 1/3 pot and get called by 10 8

Totally agree with your 1st suggestion. I usually have the same bad habbit of checking other shortstacks when approaching the bubble and let the big stack steal way too many pots uncontested. Recently I became much more aggressive and attack blinds frequently at the bubble. Of course I got into trouble many times but if I succeed I manage to accumulate a healthy stack after the bubble and don't have to push/fold after that.
One thing I don't understand is that some grinders can play 10-15 MTT tourneys at one time profitably. 15 tables Cash game or SNG is reasonable but how can they make judgements in MTT with many stages and different opponents.

Yep - I have cashed what I could out on all my sites for Christmas so I am just a few freerolls a day til jan - Hv 2 10th place finishes in like 1100 players for peanuts and just finished 6th out of like 790 players on High noon freeroll on Full Flush for 6 bucks - Had a top 5 stack with 50 left and got disc. every bb and sb for about 30 minutes - I was not amused but once I squeezed into money picked up some hands in pots where a small stack was already all in and things got checked down. Was pleased with one nice call I made with 88 on A 4 6 7 A board - small blind vs bb with 100 players left I limp he min raises pre flop he bets 1/3 pot on flop checks turn shoves river when we both have double of any the other players I snapped him just because the line made little sense and Im tired of maniacs trying to push me off hands with ridiculous lines. 88 was good although I never got to see his hand and I was curious to what he had. Disc. right after that hand for 10 min... reconnected then disc. again. Im going to stick with the strategy for now - poker seems easier and my decisions are sharper for the moment.

Bubbled the 6 pm freeroll on Full Flush - 7th pl out of 500, not sure why they only pay 6 spots but Im in top 10 with 46 players on a 1 POP freeroll
started with 379 players. (Pays 20 spots)
