hi all
i play fairly often (online only)
mostly low limit tourny's ($5 max) sng etc.
i mostly play no limit holdem
i play in 3 rooms (fulltilt,betfred cdpoker)
i am up a small amount in all three
i dont use any software (except pokerstove for odds etc)
if i want to get more serious
is software essential (huds,pokeroffice,pokertracker etc.)
i have mixed feelings about software
is it cheating ???
is everyone using it ?
i enjoy my poker at the moment
but would love to get rich lol
is using software the only way to win big online ?
any thoughts welcome
good luck at the tables

I have the same kind of questions..how about a tutorial on this..sometimes I get the feeling table delays are because players are checking their table software.

I just got Holdem Manager after some real good internet players told me how much it helped them. It takes some work but with it you can find spots your missing to pick up chips and get more info on villians tendencies. These guys are making upwards of 75k a year so I'm definately gonna give it a shot.

Holdem Manager is good, but I prefer Poker Tracker

-Great for all levels of knowledge (beginner, intermediate)
-Really lets you know how your actually doing stats wise with Return on investment, and more.
-Doesnt really matter what stakes u play
-More of a learning tool for yourself, dont think its "cheating", most likely atleasty 1 other person at your table is using it

Anyone use it with Windows Vista?

I just can't use it. Double click on icon and nothing happens!

Check into PT's forums, look for info on Vista. You probably need to set administrator rights.

Im only using pokerstove for potodds, but perhaps I should start using something. I know its usefull at times, but Im just lazy.
When it comes to weather its legal or not, well it varys from site to site, so you need to check with the site.

I think PT or PH is a must for improving leaks in your game. The stats they keep on other players is extremely helpful in classifying what types of players they are.

If you are looking to move up to higher levels, you should probably invest in software.

Installing the App creates an empty database on your PC. You configure the client for the sites (the lobby for PS, FT, whatever) to automatically save hand histories on your PC. While the application is running and you are playing hands, the application reads the hand histories and updates the database with the data from the hh's.

Make sure whatever sites you play at are supported by the application. The major sites are all supported, not all of the small sites are. What sites are supported are on the website.

So, it's not quite install and away you go - you have to configure the site clients, you have to configure folders on your PC for saving hh's - but that's pretty much it.

Here are my thoughts on this situation.....

1. It is not cheating. So long as the sites allow the software it is not cheating no matter how you may feel about it.

2. Everyone is not using them, but a lot of people are. I don't find them very helpful anymore to be honest, but if my oppenets are using it then I will use it to keep up.

3. Software is not going to make you rich. In fact I think software actually hurts most people. They put too much into their HUD's and don't truly understand the amount of data they need to cllect before the HUD is really meaningful.

I use it. I would suggest using it. I don't rely on it and neither should you. It is a supplement. It will not make you win. I can help you win, but only be analyzing your hands and finding where you play badly and then it is up to you to implement that and turn yourself into a winning player.
