I am reading Collin Moshmans SnG strategy, and am trying to get back to my math. So anyone who can explain this in laymans terms would be much appreciated. I understand what he is trying to say in relationship to the hands and how to play them, well sort of anyway, but want to understand the math better. As one example page105the equation is:
-t133=(1/3)(t1,400+t1,000)+(2/3)(-t1400)
What I cant remember is what the relationship is between the numbers in ()
like (1/3)(t1,400+t1,000) Could someone put it in words for me like
one third ????? t1400+t1000 what word goes where the ????? are? or can it even be interpreted that way?
I used to be ok in math, but on the other hand I used to be able to do a back flip ........ neither one works well anymore, but I think I can get the math back.....

I am interpreting this as -- (1/3 of 1400+1000) and adding that to (2/3 of -1400) and that equals -t133 .. but am not sure cause it doesent equal -133, but I need to factor the "t", and I am missing something here.

and page 106:
t150=(.30)(t1,000)+(.60)(-t133)+(.10)(-t700)

You are correct. When you have two bracketed terms like this you usually multiply them together. The brackets are used to show that you work out the contents of each bracket first. The second equation you give I agree with but the first I work out at -t433.3. (I am assuming the 't' merely means 'chips' or something so we can treat this the unit of measurement and not a variable.)

The thing to remember with brackets is that you need to work out the contents of the brackets before doing anything with them; and any term that is abutted to a bracket is multiplied to the contents. So,

5(3+1) = 20 and
(2+3)(3+1) = 20.

Hope this helps, and good luck with the back flips ...

First one is

1/3 of 2400=800
2/3 of -1400=-933

800-933=-133
