SnG or MTT strategy: Reraising blind stealer

Do you think it's an automatic reraise of the button when you're the BB and starting to become shortstacked? I have done this and gone all-in on the flop, regardless of what hits, and have had pretty good success with it.

Can you guesstimate how many times the button is raising, not knowing anything about the player at all, when it folds to him with any two random cards, and when he actually has "something" (pocket pair, suited connector or KX/AX)?

Trying to keep the blind-stealing button honest is a dangerous game. It's frustrating, but I have come to the conclusion that playing back at the button from the blinds if you have no hand is just foolish. I have read many opinions from the pros which teach that you always hit back, and the harder the better, so that they get their hands out of your pocket.

Well, I tried following that advice and it was my experience that striking back with rags is a really good way to bust out. You know, they're not really "stealing your blinds" if you're sitting there with 83 offsuit. They're just doing what they're supposed to do...make you fold rags to prevent a suckout. And you should fold a raggedy hand.

These days, I try to stay patient, let the player(s) to my right scarf a few raises into my blinds if I can't realistically compete in the hand, and wait for my chance to really hurt them later. Few things are more satisfying than watching the button take a few of your blinds, go to the well once too often, and you spank them with a big hand.

Totally depends on your opponent. If he makes a bet that warrants the MUST make the call on your reraise then your move is pointless unless you are comfortable putting your chips at risk with your hand. I simply don't do it early in freerolls and low buyin tournies cause more than likely your reraise will get called. Only defend you blind by reraising against a NON-MANIAC!

Re-stealing is a very important and vital tool especially in SNGs and late in MTTs.

As someone pointed out, DO NOT re-steal if your raise gives your opponent the correct odds to call. Also, you must be certain that he is on a steal and not raising with a legit hand (i.e. has he been stealing often?)

A re-steal should usually come in the form of an all-in, but it is a risky play and must be done so at extreme caution.

When you are raised by a late position player and you hold a premium hand in the blinds, you should push all-in rather than call. Many times this looks like a re-steal and you will get calls.

I think that ive made this point before, I only attempt a blind stead if i dont mind seeing a flop, the hand should be a playable heads up hand, mid-pairs and mid-connectors and Ax are the hands that i always attempt a blind steal with. I never attempt it with rags, maybe im wrong but i am doing pretty well in S&G single tables at the moment.

I have never had any luck with trying to steal a blind even with a good hand it seems that somebody has a better hand or the nuts and string me out.

Most of the time in SNGs, especially at the lower limits, stealing with garbage isn't profitable.

However, in large MTTs, sometimes you have to steal with trash hands. The timing has to be very good as you are almost certain you won't get called (i.e. the blinds are tight). Stealing late in tournaments when the blinds are in the thousands is VERY profitable as long as you don't do it too much and start to get called down.
