Hi

I'm pretty sure that this has been discussed, but my search for 9 man SNG length turned out nothing.

My doubt is how long does a typical 9 man SNG take roughly? I'm questioning this because yesterday after about 1 hour (at least) playing there were still 6 players in it and I found it too long.

If stakes are relevant, this was the lowest $1.11 on pokerstars.

I have no idea of average times for regular speed, but turbo speed, the average finish time is around 35 minutes.

Alright I guess it's fair to assume that I got into a very slow game.

Yes that was probably the case here.
Fwiw the CC league game STTs have taken between 1h and 3.25 hours in the past  - that's a long STT (although deep stacked).

Turbo STTs on Full Tilt average around 28 minutes according to my playing database. Levels there are shorter than Stars though IIRC.

yea you definitely found a slower than usual game there, i've never played a STT that lasted longer than like 1.5 hours, and that was only because when i got HU it lasted like 20 minutes cuz we kept going back and forth...i think i'd go crazy if there were still 6 ppl left after an hour, i wouldnt have the patience for that at all lol

For a normal speed game an hour is long but it's certainly not unheard of. It's been a long time since I played a non-turbo STT but when I did I remember them hitting breaks occasionally which meant they were going over an hour.

The Stars ones are really slow in the beginning, but then the blinds go up really fast (10min levels, steap blind structure).
(They did have the same structure as FT for around 1 week, but it seems they have changed it back.)
The FT ones have a different structure. (6min levels, flat blind structure).

- When was playing normal STT in Fulltilt time was 45-50min.
- Turbo STT take 32.8min avg for me, 28 min for Oz (because he never get to first places lol <- of course messing with you Oz ;)). Probably difference is buyin, i play $2´s and Oz play real poker:)

I used to think this way last year when only was playing regular speed STT, those was exactly my words, but after regulars in CC advice to change to turbos can´t thank enough. It truely looks like lotto at first sight, but very away from true. (However you will need to study more because the edge is thin).

I can say the other way now, i never-ever could be back to play regular speed games.

FWIW my figure was just from $11 turbos because that's the biggest sample I had (about 2600 games)

Believe it or not there's skill to it. My experience with regular speed games was that they're pretty much the same, except that it took an extra half an hour to get to that point so I figured I'd just play turbos and cut to the chase. Dollars an hour is what it's all about - your edge has to be much much bigger in regular speed games compared to turbos to make up for the drop in $/hr caused by the games taking so long to finish.

That assumes you're playing poker to make money though. Obviously if you're just playing for the enjoyment or the mental challenge or whatever then play whatever games work for you in that way.
