I am new to this thread so if I missed a search function my bad.

I am starting to go to local tournaments with a buy in from 25(rebuys for first 4 increments) - 100 rarely 400 it's a group of seasoned players ranging from 35-100 players. Wondering if I could get some starting strategy for the tournament. Small blinds makes 3 betting useless as my pockets have been called by 4 8 offsuit and then cracked or I loose a big pot. Also if you could elaborate a little more I'm used to full cash games only in the last few months decided to try tournaments!

Regards,

Take notes on the players. Who won't fold to a raise once they've limped. Who plays very tight. Who loves suited connectors. etc.

Don't be afraid to over-bet steal from the BTN when there are a lot of limpers.

Know your push/fold ranges. Know how loose or tight your range has to be against opponents all-ins when you are a bigger stack.

Know who tries to limp into the money.

Be prepared for the variance.

Play abc poker!

Be aggressive in position!

Raise in position against late or middle pos limpers. Be cautious of ep limpers... Lots of older players love limping premium hands utg or utg1.

Against the fish that call with 48s or 48o... and those that chase their gut shots... Value bet Value bet Value bet on every street...

good luck...
