There is so many more facts to consider before you can get a good answer. Stack sizes, amount of players left, how tight/loose are the blinds, how aggro are they pot flop, all these things have alot to do with whether opening wide on the button is a good idea or not. It's best to post real hands to get accurate feedback. But in a vacuum I'll open about top 25-30% of hands on the button with no reads and no special situations. This includes all aces, all PPs, all broadway cards, and hands like J8s, K7s and K8o. And I'd open for about 2.5xBB.

If you want to be a better player you will never limp here again. Trust me it is never the right play. When you raise you can win the pot right there, with a c-bet or by hitting your set. To be honest i don't think limping is ever appropriate. Limping is a common leak removing it from your play is one of the steps to becoming a winning player.

In general (without considering factors derived from observing your opponents), you should almost always raise when you are the first to enter a pot. This doesn't change with the situation you are describing.

Don't Limp

Can only agree with everyone else, whatever you do dont limp

always remember if you limp you only have one way to win a hand, have the
best hand

If you raise you have two ways of winning the hand, having the best hand or your opponent/s folding

I used to limp a lot when I first started playing and had to force myself to raise and now I raise a lot and although I dont win a fortune I am a winning player (just) in Sit n Go's and MTT's

As someone else said in another reply there are so many different things to consider, stack sizes etc, but if in doubt raise, it is always the better option

If you do not have enough confidence in what you have to raise the best thing to do is raise, but if you cannot bring yourself to do that fold.

Imho, if it's folded to you on the button (as OP says) I don't see any reason to setmine.
I would likely raise my standard amount of chips to take the pot down right now, especially when the blinds are high.

In case I have a lot of limpers before I have to act, I might setmine if the odds justify to do so (obv when deepstacked).

Limping is only a good idea if you have a medium pair or medium suited connectors and there are already a few limpers in the pot

Definitely don't limp here. As cardplayer mentioned, there are a lot of factors to consider like a player's raising and calling habits, and stack sizes, but most of the time, I would raise here about 3x the BB.

If someone else limps you can limp with your pocket pair. If someone raises when you limp you should easily fold unless a lot of people are in the hand. It also really situational, If you feel like gambling you should raise. But never be the first person to call. Only limp if someone else limps. Raise 2.5x or 3x the BB on the button. Remember you can always fold you don't always have to raise pocket pairs on the button.
