Is the Sit out strategy advantage to MTT or disadvantage? Why?

One time in a middle MTT, blinds are high and I was in a small blind, everybody folded then my cards was 8, 4 then I quickly raise the big blind because he is Sit out just to steal that blind and antes. Then suddenly I surprised when I see he's back quickly and go All in with my raise, I snap fold ofcourse..I just confused about what he did, is that really a strategy?

Could be a strategy but most likely it was just bad luck that he came back right on time. If he really had a big hand it was very risky move to leave his sitting back that late. If you had this auto-call clicked on, you might even have managed to steal the blinds.

I think he just played multi tabeling, and he had action on other tables, don`t tthink that is a strategy :)

Hahaha, what a move. :D
Never considered doing that, and I believe the guy did it accidentaly.
When someone steals your blind cause and then u push him all in, he can easily be pot commited (depending of his raise and blinds level) so he could be callin you widely... especially in SB vs BB pots

Sitting out in a MTT is not a strategy that will be successful over a period of time, so it's not something i would do.

I have never purposely put myself in a "sit out" mode as a strategy, but while multi-tabling, if I have missed a hand and been put in that state, I will leave it til I get a hand I want to play and hope I can catch someone raising me into an auto fold.

no i dont think sitting is is a good stratetegy. why would it be? you might get dealt aces when you are sitting and you can lose the chance to double your stack or win lots of chips with the hands you arent playing. playing more tight can be a good strategy in some cases but sitting out is never a good strategy imo.

Most likely that wasnt a strategy, for him to do that in a split second when it was your turn more than likely he just got back to the table in just the time to actually play his hand. I dont subscribe to sitting out of any MTT or any SNG unless its a freeroll/satalite where you are massive chip stack and so many people are paid and if you can sit out and not lose, the by all means sit out of course, dont let yourself lose chips for no reason and not make the money in a satalite or freeroll you will get paid in for not playing. But i doubt in this situation he was doing that for strategy. In any other MTT i say see all the hands you can becasue each one can help you in the long run. Good luck at the tables.
