In my attempts to understand ICM, I've downloaded the trial of SNGWhizz.

I've read the tutorial and have a very basic understanding of how it works, ie I look at my previous hands and see where I should I have pushed or folded but not sure how I can use that info in my live games.

Can anyone who uses this program let me know the best way to use the software.

Cheers

review your games after you play and look at the mistakes, practice on the quiz, but just make sure you adjust the villians ranges(the easiest way to do this is with the help of a hud- or you can purchase the wizhud(which saves the hud into wiz)

gl at the tables,

Thanks, what do you mean about the hud? How will that tell me their ranges?

Look at the villians PFR(pre flop raise) and Call%(which is: 1 - what they fold) and adjust it in Wiz.

Hope this helped,

Do research before using this. Understand how the program gets its answers and what you need to adjust to get accurate answers

Thanks, it's not easy to understand this programme, I've pretty much given up on it for the time being. Is it worth persevering with do you think?

I love sng.
Ok, I'll spend some hours this weekend trying to get to grips with it.
Is it the ICM calculations that make it so useful, or another aspect of it?

I don't use SNG Wizzard but did some digging on it, hope this helps you guys out.
SNG Wizzard web site should have videos on how to use it.
Also this is how you do a search when your trying to find something out, use " in front and in back.http://www.google.com/search?q=SNGWhizz&sugexp=chrome,mod=18&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8#hl=en&sclient=psy-ab&q=%22how+to+use+SNGWiz%22&oq=%22how+to+use+SNGWiz%22&gs_l=serp.3..0i30.466424.469568.1.470162.2.2.0.0.0.0.234.323.1j0j1.2.0.les%3B..0.0...1c.1.uAwKZG7oCCc&pbx=1&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.r_qf.&fp=d6947c89b83a8fba&biw=1087&bih=847

Ok,
I looked at this again and analysed my last game where I came third.

Hold'em No Limit - Level V (75/150) - 2012/09/08 7:06:21 ET
Table '611336794 1' 9-max Seat #4 is the button
Seat 2: playerx (1905 in chips)
Seat 4: Villain(8220 in chips)
Seat 6: Hero (3375 in chips)
Hero: posts small blind 75
playerx: posts big blind 150
*** HOLE CARDS ***
Dealt to Hero [Kd Qd]
villain: raises 150 to 300
Hero: raises 3075 to 3375 and is all-in
playerx: folds
villain: calls 3075
*** FLOP *** [5c 7c 2s]
*** TURN *** [5c 7c 2s] [Qc]
*** RIVER *** [5c 7c 2s Qc] [2c]
*** SHOW DOWN ***
Hero shows [Kd Qd] (two pair, Queens and Deuces)
villain: shows [Kh Ks] (two pair, Kings and Deuces)
villain collected 6900 from pot
hero finished the tournament in 3rd place and received $2.32.
*** SUMMARY ***
Total pot 6900 | Rake 0
Board [5c 7c 2s Qc 2c]
Seat 2: playerx (big blind) folded before Flop
Seat 4: villain (button) showed [Kh Ks] and won (6900) with two pair, Kings and Deuces
Seat 6:Hero (small blind) showed [Kd Qd] and lost with two pair, Queens and Deuces

SNG Wiz suggested folding my hand. I adjusted the range of villain to 99% and couldn't get a PUSH suggestion. I looked back at all my decent hands and where Villain raised I was told to fold, regardless of his range ie I gave him a 99% range.
I didn't have AA, KK, AK to compare but the advice was to always to fold.
Interesting.

several pts

You have are around a 22 bb effective stack size vs the villian - wiz generally is most valueable starting around 10bbs, if you are open shoving more than 10bbs readless you are giving up some ev. In the standard 9 man format you dont need to use wiz until the stack size is around 10bbs effective.

You also seem to have KQ, in 2nd place with a much lower third place, if you shove here you are essentially giving playerx free money.

Try the graph/chart button in situations like this, then you wont have to adjust the villians range.

Hopefully that helps and gl at the tables,

ICM calculators help you to figure out how much equity you have in a tournament and how much your stack is worth. It helps you make decisions with pay jumps or with risking it to play for first.

You need to adjust villians opening range and the range he will call with. If he opens alot and folds heaps you will find its much closer.

Yeah.
It was a bad play. I was trying to be aggressive. Should have waited with that many blinds. Lesson learned
