I have a simple strategy question. Lately my game has been suffering from what I call an inability to capitalize on premium hands like KK or QQ. I either slow play myself into a flop that seems to always produce an ace and ruin my previously powerful pre-flop position. Is it merely variance raring its ugly head and eventually the aces will stop falling? or am i doing something fundamentally wrong? Help me please.

Well, just don't slow play them unless there is a really loose player or players at the table that you know will raise.

OK

What should the win percentage for KK or QQ over 10000 hands be? On average.

Post some hand histories... Are you raising pre-flop to isolate opponents? what are you doing post-flop to determine your hand strength?

I thought the question was gonna be that you couldn't find your caps lock key. But then I realize you found it by the time you made the post.

In all seriousness though yeah there are no specifics. Imagine a baseball player going to a batting coach and saying "I keep hitting the ball but I can't get hits what's wrong with my swing?" How about examples or a certain spot and how you played it?

You're not always gonna get paid off on premium hands. Just play them the best you can.

Like alot of others have said, somee hand histories would help.Slow playing premium hands will kill you. But if an Ace hits the board you have to be willing to pitch your hand. Have you seen the FT commercial when Jennifer Harman muck her KK when an Ace hits the board?

it's very important that you raise before the flop, and i mean a consistant raise, to isolate the other players. if you re trying to slow play make sure you have a big stack. good luck

Since this isnt a "HA" thread I dont understand WVs reply to this post. If a new member were to reply with some of the comments I am seeing from WV and Zach they wouldnt get credit for them for being not relevant to the post.
Neil, I would suggest you go to the websites Alien suggested.
As far as my advice, Dont slow play KK or QQ. You want to chase out A rag (if you can) and you sure dont want to loose to the BB who stayed in with a 3 9 off because he had no reason to fold preflop.

Maybe you should stop being a child and actually think about what you're asking. I know you need ~30 more post before you can get into the freerolls or whatever but certainly you can come up with a real question or two.

Here is a real answer to your original question; it depends. Really helpful huh? Now post some hhs, get real advice, learn to play better, or just go post bad beats and never get better. The choice is yours and I don't care either way.

Deleted the OP's troll post that WV is responding to ^^

WVH point is valid, how can this possibly be answered without examples to see what you're doing?

If you stay around in this forum long enough to find out (which sounds quite unlikely from the way you have conducted yourself so far) you will find that zacvach and WVHillbilly give a lot of excellent advice, but only to people that ask quality questions which are worthy of quality answers.

Incidentally, am I the only person that finds ambiguous thread titles like this one frustrating :questionm

If you put as much effort into trying to find an answer already (Yes, it's out there) as you do trying to pick a cool font (Early 90's printer font) and thinking of original ways of getting people to read your post (Useless title, CAPS LOCK), then you'd be well on your way.

lol what? Just because it's not HA we should just ignore the fact that they're asking for advice about an impossible situation? It's not the fact that there's no hand, it's the fact that there's no question. It's basically "I am having a problem please everyone fix it" without actually going into what the problem is.

Neil, I would suggest you go to the websites Alien suggested.
This is good advice. I think there's a post here somewhere with the beginners guide to pokerstove? If you are able to use it it can be a huge help in understanding situations.

Kind of this, but we actually want them to incorrectly call without odds. Obviously limping QQ/KK is not good (if that's what you meant by slowplaying I agree completely) but if we raise KK from the button we definitely want the blinds to call with whatever they have, be it 39 or A3o. The only time we want them to fold is when they have AA but we know that's not going to happen.

I have realized one thing over the long term. Most of the times when I start with a high pair I usually get beat. Be it 10-King, anyone with an Ace who pairs up beats me. Thus I'll bet, but conservatively.

Honestly, if you guys have moved past the point of giveing advice with out making personal attacks, maybe you should stop giving advice all together. We have all seen that same question asked 100s of times or ones just like it, but look at the person asking it. 37 posts and plays at bodog......ie NEW TO POKER. This community is better than this, we need to get back to doing what we do best, TALKING with eachother about poker, learning and teaching with respect shown to EVERY member from the newest member to Nick

Honestly Cowboy I think you mistook my original response here. I meant no attack against the poster, only the post. It really wasn't very good and basically asked no real question (hence meaningless).

As for my 2nd post, it was in response to a direct insult to me that has since been deleted and admittedly I was a bit more confrontational with it (I actually had worse written but thought better about it before posting). I still think that my 2nd post is spot on and if the original poster takes the advice offered in this thread (i.e. post some actual examples and read the HA forums for similar spots) he'll be a better player for it.

Next time maybe I should just throw out some cliche like "never slowplay those ladies" and we'll all sing Kumbaya. That should really help to further a new player's grasp on the game.

It don't think anyone has a problem with any problem being too simple. But questions like "how do I win?" aren't too simple they're just too vague.
