I posted the hand history below but in general.

30$ deep stack tourney, I have 8200 chips
blinds 30/60
I am dealt Jh Jc, I raise to 240 with one limper behind
one caller and limper fills
flop: 6c 9c 10h
limper checks
I bet 600
next player calls
limper goes over the top all in for 4700
I fold

Is this a good fold? I almost always fold in these situations, early in a tourney when my m>20, but I don't know if it is the right play.

One factor in folding here was that I did have a player behind with an equal chip stack as me to worry about. But, to be honest, I am not sure I make this call even if it was heads up.

Obviously, I am behind to a set, 9-10 and 7-8 OR racing against a flush draw, over cards or a middle pair with a straight draw (but not over pair). On the other hand, A-10 and A-K (and worse) are possibilities too. I imagine I am beat about 40% of the time, racing 40% and ahead 20%. Does that sound right to you?

Just wondering what you guys would do. And more importantly, in your experience what hands do you see make this type of play? Would hands I am ahead of typically make this play or would they check raise to 1200 or smooth call rather than check raise all-in? Assuming that the player is not a complete lag moron.

Also, if I had QQ+ rather than Jacks would that change your recommendations of how to play the hand?

I run into this situation at least once a tournament and not sure if the fold is the optimal play in the long run.

I apologize for the lengthy post.

Absolutely good fold there...
Cause he could have had an over pair or hit a trips there...
I would call his all-in only if i had hit a jack at the flop...
Also i would suggest you to bet 480 instead of 240 as ur preflop bet, cause it will give much clear view of what others are holding. I mean people want call 480 unless they have a very good hand...And if they don't have any nice cards, they probably will fold there....

Thank you Spiderman for the reply. While I am certain you are right, I am surprised about the raise size you recommend so I want to clarify:

With blinds at 30/60 and one limper behind you recommend raising to 480? I thought 3 or 4xbb + one big blind for every limper. So, 240 or 300 which is about half of what you recommend.

I agree, thinning out the field would be ideal but with Jacks some action is nice.

So, do you advise this because it is deep stack or because I had Jacks or because the blinds are low?

To put it nicely.. this ^ is absolute bunk!!!! 8x preflop raise?? that is ludicrous imo. (aside from maybe in a freeroll donkament).
Also, I HIGHLY DOUBT that villain has a higher overpr. in this spot. Think about it Spidey... it doesn't match the preflop play at all.

To OP... hand played fine imo... ez fold on flop. It's early levels, you have a deepstack - - - no tournaments are won in early levels ;)

The limp/call pre & check-raise ai looks like a set that is vulnerable to a draw-heavy board (a bet of 600, followed by a caller certainly looks like you've got strong hands & can't see villain shoving over with anything we're ahead of).

Well he could be betting with a draw here or protecting against the draw... Either way it's not a bad fold...... Orifice said... tourneys are not won on round one..... they are aboutabout survival plain and simple and making these calls will not help you to survive....
