For example, say blinds are at 100/200. If I am on the button and it is folded around to me, 9 handed, how should my raise change if there is a 25 chip ante (225 extra chips in the pot)? Assume effective stacks of 30BB.

And I haven't made a thread with a poll in forever so let's have one for fun :D

i think u should factor in that with antes, the blinds are getting a better price to see a flop but at the micros most ppl dont factor in raise sizes and just play their hand so i still think that even with antes, u can raise 2.5 to 2.75bb

I'm betting some fraction of the pot, so the antes are going to affect that for sure.

Yes and No, blinds get priced in so you should raise more earlier in the MTT. However later in the MTT when the blinds get big, just raise the standard 2.5/3.0 BB raise. You don't want to over commit yourself to hands, especially when you should be stealing regularly from the CO and BU.

When the antes kick in is when most players will be shoving/folding anyway due to stack sizes, so if you increase the size of your preflop raise you will be commiting yourself to hands when you shouldnt be. Raising to 2.5 BB's will be enough to get the result you need. This also increases the success rate of your steal attempts. I usually raise to 3 BB's up until the 50/100 level. At the 60/120 level is usually when i cut it down to 2.5 BB.

However, like most situations in poker, there is an exception. If you are deep (40 BB's+) and you are in the CO or on the Button facing deep opponents in the blinds, a larger raise may be in order since they have the stack size to call and manuever a flop. This is a less common scenario, but still something to keep in mind.

Chris Ferguson says, with antes, you should make standard raise (2.5-3x BB) plus half the total antes. If you're standard raise is 3x BB, then in you're scenario, james, you should raise to 700, instead of 600. This is because, as mentioned before in this thread, the blinds are getting a better price to see the flop.
