We have all been there - short stacked and being dealt awful hands. My question is whether at around 10-11BBs should you shove with a somewhat sub-par hand eg. K10, J10s, or risk dropping to ~6BBs or lower waiting for a proper shoving hand. For reference I would shove at 10BBs usually with any ace, pocket pair or face cards.

You're better off shoving 10-11 BBs than you are shoving ~6 BBs.

I would have done this, you can simply wait for good cards, as well as at least some chance of winning is

Think it this way, let's say you hand a shoving hand with only 5 BB, you win the pot and double your stack at 10 or 11 BB. Few hands later you will have to shove again, because blinds/ante will eat your stack inevitably. If you shove with 10BB and win the hand, you'll find yourself with at least 20BB, that's enough room to keep on playing with no killing pressure. Besides, there is more fold equity with a 10BB shove.

You just wait for a good cards. Any suited connectors or pair in your hand or AK, AQ, AJ offsuit. Even tho suited connectors raise your chances of winning your hand by 3% I would wait for them because in online poker there are too many straights and flushes in lets say 500 hands than you would get on the live poker, so suited on online poker must give you bigger than 3% chance :)

Agreed don't wait. Your position still matters as you become less likely to have a monster waiting behind you and can shove wider

If you raise med position you must raise main race specially your monster hand.

I'm a very tight player in tournaments so I usually open up my range a little when I have around 20 x BB left and will shove to a raise.

Anything from 7-8s up, is good enough to shove when you are 10-11bbs stacked

Playing loose, aggressive is the WORST thing you can do when short-stacked. You've got to tighten up, stop bluffing and look for big hands that you can get paid with.

I generally don't think in terms of BB, since my structures are with antes. I use M almost exclusively.

Do your structures have antes?
