Think it all depends what position im in(7th or 9th) and how many bbs i have. <10bbs im looking to get it in with a decent hand. >15bbs i might try to icm a bit

Twell in that case you have to wait for cards like 33+ 9T+ , if you have a nice card AA KK you have to go all in no matter your position because you priority is increase your stack

I was just going to post a thread about this. I'm looking to work on my short stack late tourney game. I try to wait for something I can shove and avoid icm, but after not playing a hand for 3 orbits sometimes, when I finally get a shove hand, I get no action from being so tight. So I've been trying to 2.5x raise pre and see a flop, but when I don't catch a piece of the flop, the bigger stacks just push me out of the pot which sucks, so I don't know how I should go about it.

I wait for a decent hand to play, until then I expect some players to leave by shoving their chips but the timerunning against my stack is a difficult decision ...

Your main purpose when you are at a final table is to play your A game.
When you are short stacked you are aiming for a double up which will lead you at least to the final top 3 places when the money is.

So when you are short stacked you need to wait for hands with equity in order to push - and not necessarily the absolute monsters - . It's way more preferably and effective to open push a marginal hand than to be the caller with a marginal one. Apparently late positions favor you to be the aggressor and you can shove wider.

You must understand how the ICM [Independent Chip Model] takes its place in final tables and also how ranges kinda change if the tournament is a turbo or a regular speed one.Don't be afraid to push and try not to be too passive because you won't get action when you want to, like TheNutz4You has already mentioned. Try to make your opponents speculate about your hand and not put you instantly at the top 5% of your range for instance.

Last but not least you must understand that it is statistical impossible to win every final table we make but we must play optimally. Cheers :)

well, it really depends on how many palyers are left and how many bbs you have, but both ways, if you are a short stack everyone at the table would expect that you are the one to leave the table first, the bigger the prizes the bigger are their expectations on that matter. My advice would be, all in with really any ace high, any pockets are more than welcome to push if you are under 10 bbs. Personally, i will push with any Q high or better from the button, but wouldn't encourage others to do so cause that kind of strategy hadn't worked for me lol. A double up would mean a change of desperate strategy ofc :)

I just open up that range and shove with any two. Final table means I'm already in the money so I'm good with whatever I get.

Short stack means only two variants: all in or fold. You can't limp in that time of a tournament. That's why it became very primitive.
Notice, other players olso are very scared and it is hard for them to call all in.

Becides you should make a decision. If you are already satisfied with your price you could stop plaing and wait for your finish place. If you play only for the victory you mast fight, play agressivelly and don't be scared to loose all.

Final Table and short stacked, you should wait for a decent hand and push All in! is your only hope since Blinds will eat you soon. ;)

That's the million dollar question! What I usually try to do is figure out how the opponents are playing, and do the exact opposite. If they seem to play fast, then wait and let them bust each other, if they are patient than go all in with any decent hand and hope for the best. But, of course, it's easier said than done.

Try to double up as soon as possible with high pairs or high suited connectors says Playful but be very patient:cool:

push or fold

I would totally agree. not enough chips to call or min raise. you put yourself at risk of all in or fold then

This. Shoving preflop to open and THREE BET shoving are two very different things. When you're short stacked your OPEN shove range should be much looser than your CALL a shove or OTT range in every single position.

Well as short stack the blinds are gonna be hurting you more so than others. So you would want to attempt stealing blinds when in position or winning some coin flips 1v1 when in position. While its true you are short stack that doesnt mean you have to be alling in within hands that are at the bottom end of your range. Wait for those strong hands and then try to get it in. gl
