I don't care to shake the player's hand when they bust me out of a tournament, especially when it's a bad call. But I still do because they put their hand out so what else am I supposed to do? I understand if it's late in the tournament and you are well into the money. But typically I just like to leave fast as possible when I bust out. I am not a bad loser to the point where I will say anything, but I just like to leave fairly quickly and not shake hands lol.

What is your take on shaking hands when you bust out?

If they beat your AA with 33 on the river 3 then it's fair enough to kick up a stink. But if it's a simple flip like AK v TT then always shake hands

Well, first, if they made the call and won, it wasn't a bad call. Maybe statistically they were behind, but a win is a win.

To answer your question, why not shake their hand?
Tournaments are meant to be a fun experience where you are most likely to lose your buy-in. I always congratulate he player who took me out. If for nothing else, it may entice them to make the same "wrong" call again in the future....

Depends of the situation. This simple gesture can provide information about the person of the profile. However, the outstretched hand is a gesture from the earliest history of humanity, symbolizes good intentions. When nomadic tribes walked on Earth, the handshake was a guarantee that everyone was unarmed. Today, the gesture has little to see with the weapon-carrying, however, it is an excellent way to defuse the mistrust that precedes the first contact.

Sorry, but I'm 100% with you. If someone has their hand in my face I would shake it, but short of that I'm just going to exit stage left.

If it was a heart breaker of a tournament i'm not doing anything i have no interest in doing. If it was a standard tournament and they douched me with their play I would not shake hands either.

If they are respected by me and played a solid game then the shake is well earned.

I havent yet play live poker. But is it required to shake hands in a tourney? If you feel like it, do it, if you dont, then dont. Why to complicate things?

I do

I shake their hands too. It doesn't usually bother me to do so. I have played poker so long I have become very use to bad beats. I think it helps to become numb to the ups and downs of poker. I seem to play a lot better since I have stopped being effected by poker bad beats. Good luck !

Me too! I try to go out as soon as possible when something like this happens with me.

I've never had anyone want to shake my hand after knocking me out. If fact they usually pretty much ignore me and move on with tournament. Only time anyone has offered hand for handshake was after a chop and we were all getting paid. I usually just say nice hand good game good luck and get out before I tell them how I really feel lol

I always send my hand for a shake after getting busted. I really like it, it makes poker more of a respected and competitive sport. However, If I knock someone out, I leave it up to him whether to shake hand, because I realise sometimes people just want to get the hell out of the place after getting knocked out.

I don't play a lot of live tournaments, but when I do, I don't usually shake hands when I bust out. I'm not like a ***** or anything but I usually just leave quietly.

Sucks when I'm there with a buddy and then I have to wait around for them to lose too lol

Poker is not a contact sport lol

Shaking hands is not required.

And yet there is something redeeming about the gesture.

Kind of like how two sports teams will shake hands after a game.

No hard feelings?

It's either chivalrous or they want to get close enough to you to remember your face lol

I always shake hands with my opponents after I'm busted ! I didn't come there to play and get mad at them at any point , even if I lose with AA against their AK , its poker , game of chance , luck and skill , so in my head I understand and accept realities of poker ! So even if he/she played that as bad/good as he/she could , there's no point in getting mad and just go home without even saying goodbye and shake hands , like we all should ! Be sportsmanlike , have a good bankroll , and hope they play bad , it will pay off ;)

I take the same line as rudy, it is just a game, whether playing for a living or recreation, small sums or large. Regardless of the hand I will always shake their hand. Its their money and if they want to ship it with 72 off for example and they win then good for them and us in the longer term. I will respect all players at the table regardless of how good or bad they are, as rudy said its sports-manly behaviour and I never have any hard feelings towards anyone. I can cry myself into a beer afterwards :p

Everyone has the right to posturpt as he wants.
Personally, I do not care, shake my hand or not.
I came to play and win money.

I will shake hands or fist bump, I am going to be careful to keep my hands away from my face until I get to a sink and wash them and then use some hand sanitizer. After handling nasty chips and cards for hours, one more contact with someone that has been touching the same nasty stuff I have won't hurt. As for any emotional reason for not wanting to shake hands.... Nope.

Very admirable.

I wish that more people take the same stance. In today's world civilized contact between people is getting more and more rare and yet that's what keeps society liveable. You're there to join a game and in the end - that's all it is: a game. Enjoy it and be happy that others are willing to play it with you and thereby are enabling your enjoyment.

However hard it is to lose and potentially lose lots of money - I find that a bustout in a 50ct tournament feels the same as it does in a 1000usd scoop event or a satellite for 10k packages.

A handshake may open up a friendly beer later at the bar with a lot of good laughs :) That's what life is about I hope.

I'm pretty much the same. If they offer the hand I'll shake it or fist bump or whatever. I do usually offer the obligatory "nice hand" when I bust even if I think there play was crazy. The way I figure it is it's a "game" yes but it's also business so I conduct it like any other business with respect to my peers.

You got knocked out, you're upset. When you extend a hand you feel a little more fun. This is how to add a spoonful of sugar into a barrel of shit. I approve of shaking hands after the defeat.

You might seem them at another event, it's totally up to you on whether you do it or not but it makes you look better if you do shake.

Mutual sign of respect. Unless the person has a smug ass look on their face lmao.
