Hey all! I'm gonna play my second live tournament this weekend!

I am excited so I decided to create a thread where I can post updates.

I also have a serious question which comes from my first MTT experience.

Could anybody suggest any hint as how to estimate/calculate the pot/stack/bet size??

When I played for the first time I was extremely confused and had no idea what the sizes were... I play only online so this is something I never had to face before. Any advice?

Thanks!

Good luck Ahoy just guess your odds as best you can take your time relax and enjoy.:)
Count totals last player action on each street helps a lot with all the different chips piled in the middle.
5x100 preflop 3x300 flop 2x 700 turn river =?

It should be a 900czk tournament which is approximately ~35€. I assume it will play like a freeroll online or some big 1.10 on stars. Not much guaranteed, there should not be a lot of people.

Hi.
First of all, I recommend that you just do not worry. Secondly, it is very important that you have a good mood. And thirdly, you must be sure of your own strength.
Good luck.

Best of luck dude!

I have only recently started playing live games myself. Of 5 Tournaments I've competed in, I've cashed in only 1.

There were 5 of us left at the final table, and we all decided to chop the prize pool. I was chip leader by a narrow margin and agreed to this (it was enough to get me unstuck).

Is this a common practice where anyone else plays?

Im not sure, but I follow a local casino on instagram and they often say that players decided to chop the prizes on the FT/HU.

One thing I can tell you my nature would not let me accept this, I would like to compete for the win 😁

GL hope it all goes well, my best advice is always that the chips you lose are worth more than the ones you win.
Stack size is important but remember that it is usually more profitable to be more aggressive with the smaller stacks and just try to check it down or be willing to win smaller pots against the big stacks.
So, at the risk of sounding contradictory, try to stack up early and make it to in the money.
Best of luck :)

Good luck, Ahoy!!! You've got to do the math in your head in live games. Are you familiar with the rule of 4 & 2? read this article: http://www.thepokerbank.com/strategy/mathematics/pot-odds/4-2/ You basically count your outs (which cards will improve your hand) then multiple that number by 4 on the flop, or by 2 on the turn. If the price is right, draw. If not, fold. Keep in mind that other players are doing the same thing, so you should size your bets appropriately to either get a call from a worse hand, or a fold from a better one. You can do it!

As a note, imo live tournaments do NOT run the same way that freerolls online do. Chip preservation is critical, so don't over value your hands (top pair, two pair, even trips). That being said, don't be afraid to get the money in when you know you're ahead. You can do it! Keep us updated. GOOD LUCK!!!! [ac]

Im not sure why the result post I wrote immediately after bustint did not post.

I busted before the first break. I was getting good hands in the start but was unable to get into any action.
Then I got called by a middle pair no kicker after betting the river big on a pair where the river brought in a flush and 4to a straight. I still have no idea how this guy who seemed like a reg called. It was like 75% pot bet by me but what ever.

After that I was left with 18bb and the dealer misdealt two hands IN A ROW first gave me JJ and misdealt and then gave me 88 and misdealt, i was pretty upset to be honest and I was not the only one.

Then i shoved my last ~15bb in the smallblind agaist CO open and got called by KK in the big blind and rest is history.

More sadly I have consumed something that SHOULD NOT have contained wheat (which im allergic to) and I have had a pretty bad reaction later that evening so Im pretty glad I busted.

If that was not enough my throat is sore now as I am waking up to leave. Definitely one of the worst weekend trips I ever had. My friend who hosted me didnt really care and did not prepare a bit, so I am pretty sad with this as well, but at least Im leaving in about two hours.

Im looking forward to play my lovey cash games at home. See you guys later and thanks for the advice.
