I hate AK..it's a drawing hand and when it misses the flop it's basically worthless. I've folded this hand to big 3 bet allins m ore than once.

It depends on blinds, chip stacks/depth, structure, table dynamics etc. Usually you are flipping for stacks, but can sometimes be dominated by AA/KK. Also, im always getting it in with 20bbs or less with AK if that helps... Never folding when that short. But if its early in a tourney or you're deep in a cash game, just standard open preflop and play from there.

It also depends if you have suited AK, makes quite a difference. I prefer to raise pre-flop and then go from there depending on flop... If you're tired to drop out from tournaments with AK, stop putting all your chips with that hand... :D Btw try to NEVER BE SCARED in poker, what are you scared off? Cards? :) NEVER!

When are you folding it?

Since you quoted my post and alerted me personally, I'll answer your question...

Let's say we're 200bbs deep in a 2-5$ cash game... EP opens to $15, I 3 bet to $45( with AK), button 4 bets to $135 and bb(nit) 5bet jams all in(has me covered)... i think that's a perfect scenario when to think about folding AK( bc you're now a flip at best ;) and you arent getting correct pot odds to stack off). There's other spots too, if you need me to explain.

AK

AK is not a guarantee that 100% can win the hand, although they are good cards but they are not invincible

When are you folding it?

Also, If you read my initial post thoroughly, i said " Deep in a cash game" or "Early in a tourney" depending on stakes, pot odds and dynamics etc.. if it's a table full of nits, I'd be more inclined to fold, vice versa. So, that would answer your question there;)

AK is a drawing hand, so you win some, lose some, and the wheel keeps spinning. You will never win all hands in poker.

Dealio96: Pretty solid advice from a skilled player to a open ended question...I couldn't have said it better. OP: Your gut is telling you not to over-value what is essentially a drawing hand--a great drawing hand--but still a drawing hand. Buuuuut, when you are short stacked....

in my experience it's a 70% win, but playing online you have to be in a winning mood

...and so all conversation must be restricted to tournaments only? Is your goal to alienate anyone who is trying to help you? Or are you just being cheeky? You did ask "when are you folding it?"...which to me invites some scenarios.

The way I see you have to take chances to win in poker, as much as it hurts to get ousted early or on the bubble, the point in poker is to aim for first place that is you should not be scared to shove when you have a hand.

Don't consider AK a monster. Don't call preflop all-in from tight player. I often don't 3bet early open raise and see flop, especially in position.

Can you kindly explain some situations where you would be folding AK preflop early in a tournament?

I was just asking questions to a respected member of the community as it were pertaining to this thread. Not trying to alienate anyone my friend.

I obviously have problems in this scenario and was mainly just asking for some insight. You got any?

It doesn't matter if this is a tournament thread or not. You asked me " when am i folding ak?" I gave you a perfect scenario. You act like AK is the nuts or something. Yes, its a huge hand and has alot of equity against the majority of ones preflop range, but there are times when you're behind with AK, and stacking off wouldn't be optimal play.

Also, if you read my initial post thoroughly(again) i said "early in a tournament, just open standard and play it from there". That doesn't mean i was insinuating to fold ak, but rather maybe just call if you're facing a 3bet/4bet(after you've opened the pot) instead of stacking off. Hope this helps you out a bit!
