Is there any difference between the number of regular MTTs you need to play before you have a rough idea whether you're a profitable player at your limit, and the number of time-limited MTTs that last only 15 minutes or half an hour before all survivors get paid something?

I've heard that you need to play about 20,000 regular MTTs before you have an accurate idea of your ROI, but after about 1,000 tournaments you have a pretty good idea whether you're profitable. So is that also the case with time-limited MTTs?

not familiar with the time format mtts, but

every different format mtt will have a sample size needed for it to have a valid sample size

in sngs you usually need a larger sample size the faster the format ie super turbo, hyper turbo, etc

so a million person, 1 blind, 1 minute, mtt would require a huge sample size to get a "true" roi

Thanks, TeUnit, but I am thinking less of true ROI than of just getting a rough idea of whether I'm profitable.

I am focusing on $3+.30 timed MTTs. Half are 15 minutes and half are half an hour, so they have an average length of 22.5 minutes. The average number of entrants is 650 and usually about 225 are still left at the end, although you do have to finish in the top 150 in order to get your three bucks thirty back completely (as some of the lower payouts are smaller than the buyin and entry fee). Does that help with figuring out roughly how many tourneys it would take to have a general idea of whether I'm profitable?
