SAGE System
1. Compute a Power Index (PI)
1. The "power number" of each card is its rank: J=11, Q=12, K=13, A=15 (don't forget that the ace is 15!)
2. Take the power number for your higher card and double it.
3. Add the power number of your lower card.
4. If it's a pocket pair, add 22.
5. If they're suited, add 2.
6. The sum is the Power Index (PI) of your hand.

2. Use the PI
1. Compute the ratio (R) of the shortest stack to the big blind.
2. Look up the necessary PI for that value of R.
3. If the PI of your hand is greater than or equal to that value, jam (if you're the button/SB) or call (if you're the BB).
3. The SAGE Table

What is meant by "1. Compute the ratio (R) of the shortest stack to the big blind"

Has anybody tried the Sage System?

I think its exactly what it sounds like? if the bb is 200, and the small stack has 800, then the R=4. As far as using this system, i have read about it, and incorporate it somewhat, as far as shoving a lot lighter than most other people do hu in micros. I dont exactly use it, but I have looked at what the cutoff hands are at certain R levels, and tried to commit it to memory.

Thanks cardplayer52, just checked out the nash/equilbruim calculator, appears to be a very useful tool, have you used?

Maybe SAGE is good for live tournaments where you don't have access to an ICM Calculator? Sounds simple enough to do in your head.

yes i try to study this as much as possible. but there is also a heads/up push/fold chart on the site. it's easy enough to learn after a while. for the most part you can shove alot more hands unexpliotablibly as you think. having said that i'm finding for the most part it's alot more profitable to play small ball vs the villian. make tons of small raises and small stabs at every pot. i think shoving allin makes it too easy for the villian to play. the more decisions players have to make the more likely they'll make a mistake. however if the villian is fighting for every pot and just very dificult to play i'll often just use the chart(of which i got on file to pull up as i play).
