Lately Ive been finding myself involved in a lot of bad coolers in the sng's and playing longer games that seem to drag on for...ever!

It can be very tiring.

Is it time to up my game?

Any advice?

I agree with this sentiment a lot. One table SnGs almost always used to run an hour or so. Yesterday I had two that went over 100 minutes. And it seems that at least one a day lately is going that long. I think a lot more people have been reading up on the play tight early then open up range a lot when the blinds get higher. This is something that is discussed in just about every SnG article but I think more people are actually paying attention.

I prefer SnG to Ring so there is unfortunately no way around it for me.

I play PLO and PLO8 so there is hardly ever a chance to multitable to make it more interesting.

FU Black Friday FU American Government.

Use that knowledge against them. Open up more earlier, steal more. If you know what they are doing, play differantly. Think outside the box, you'd be suprised what works against "good" players.

wow this is very interesting. you got me thinkn now!

Ok this is very interesting BUT...

lets say you have 3 tight players and 2 donks that play every single hand (they never fold).

How would you play on this table early?

Im guessing a good example would be this (correct me if Im wrong)

the 3 tight players fold...

the 2 donks call the BB

You are in last position with a marginal hand like k8

play the marginal hand against the donks which are likely to have nothing.

ok this makes sense.

Care to ad your thoughts? More ways to exploit this?

It's reassuring that others are noticing this as well... I thought I was imagining things.

Well yeah, playing in position vs players who call too much is pretty much a dream right?

Basically i just try to be the most annoying player i can be against good players. It's all about thinking one level, or keeping one step ahead of what they are thinking. In the low levels, this is usually pretty easy as even the good players don't adjust properly and they usually only have one gameplan, especially the multitabling types, who are an absolute dream to play against.

So an example from when i was playing might be, good player who raises a lot from SB raises me. Stacks are about 30-50BB or whatever. I min raise him back knowing that:-

A. He can't call, and he knows he can't really just call.
B. He needs a hand to be willing to go with it.
C. it's really annoying, and it makes me look like a spastic.
D. If he does call, i'm in position, with initiative and a decent idea he has something playable.
E. Even if it doesn't work, after a while of doing this to him, he will get the idea that he cannot attack my blind without it being unprofitable for him.
F. It's really cheap for me to try this, it gives me a good price on my 3bet, knowing it will probably work pretty often.

Anyways that's just one example, the games you play might be differant, but basically i'll always look to attack better players because usually they are the easiest ones to play against.

Now against donks, i'd just play my standard straightforward game and let them do the rest, i'd be looking to play in position vs them as much as possible. Looking for patterns against donks is usually pretty helpful, most of them fall into some sort of pattern, however they are usually not at the same tables long enough to really take advantage of those reads.

I'm having the opposite problem. I keep going in ahead and can't win. I know the people are bad, I give them the perfect opportunity and reason to fold, they call with a 2 or 3 outer, and I always lose.

Sry this isn't advice, just me whinning.

Your exhaustion with regular speed SNGs is a reason SNG pros tend toward the turbo format. Hourly rates are higher...even if skill edge declines due to turbo format reducing post flop play.

Turbo could be a solution for you, but I like the idea of exploiting the 'regs' at reg speed.

Tips: Set mine, especially when somebody makes a fishy 4 or 5 BB raise. Make sure you are 50BB+ deep though. Also call with SCs against those 2 aggro players in the earlier levels. I find being active when everyone is passive is a good way to maybe 1.5x my stack. Then my first double up makes me 3x starting and the field is at 2x.
